For romantic novel lovers, I will say up front that I am not a fan of romance novels, although I accept and enjoy a romantic side story in a historical or suspense story if it's not cliched' and out of sync with the way romances really develop. I will usually bail on a book that is sodden with touching, tingling, jolting, "how can I be so attracted to this person I only met two days ago?" etc., along with the obligatory clashing of personalities before the romance fires up, which I consider to be a worn out template. But Ms. Ziarnik develops the romantic angle patiently and realistically by placing an impediment that has to be overcome before the romantic aspect of the story can emerge and come to fruition. And although Jill is lovely and Clay is rugged and handsome, the author does not burden the reader with incessant reminders of their physical attractiveness. Perhaps I'm showing a bias, but I believe physical beauty is not prerequisite to either agape or romantic love.
For these reasons I highly recommend "Her Deadly Inheritance." It is eminently readable and draws the reader into the characters' experiences, especially Jill's. Beth Ann Ziarnik is an author whose works I will watch for and read promptly after release.
Clay Merrick has almost completed the restoration of Windtop to early twentieth century elegance. Unfortunately, he’s no closer to finding proof that the traffic death of his fiancée was murder, not accident. Now he senses that Jill’s questions to her family have put her life in danger.
Ms. Ziarnik moves her characters quickly through a few summer weeks and displays their flaws and strengths against a background of accepting Christ’s direction for your life.
Through a series of events she tries to learn more about her dark past in an effort to understand the tragic events that shaped her life, but the more she learns the more danger she is in. Will a chance at a real love interest keep her from learning the truth about the past, or will it aid her in her search?
After a series of troubling attacks come maybe running away again is the best option, or should she fight for what is hers?
Can she learn what she needs to know before it is too late? Will the evil that stalks her win in the end?
I really enjoyed this book, it is well done and keeps you guessing. It is a fun story with some great twists. The characters are well developed and you quickly find yourself connected with some and despising others. This was a really fun read.
