I just spent a four day weekend in Mexico. I was fortunate enough to have downloaded "Her Frozen Wild" on my Kindle right before leaving. Being a devoted fan ever since reading another of her powerful mythic tales "Jigsaw Woman" I was excited to dig into this novel. It took me two days to read it, I could not put it down. If I wouldn't have had a plane landing and customs, a taxi ride. etc. interrupting me I wouldn't have put it down until I had read the whole thing as soon as I started it!

What a delight! The novel revolves around the main character of Ursula - a woman who has lost touch with her true Self. It explores her own connection to a frozen mummy found in Siberia. As the mummy they name 'the Lady' thaws, so does Ursula's own heart. In a captivating, mythic ride, Ms. Antieau took me on a journey that allowed me to reach in, touch my own 'wild' self and find a re-connection with what it means to be alive.

My favorite quote from the novel, "Who you are is the who you were before someone told you you were a good girl because you stood still or were quiet and didn't speak your heart. Who are you is the who you were before someone told you to act like a lady which meant not to squirm, not to move, not to cry when you needed to mourn or sing when you were joyful. Who you are is the who you were before someone told you you weren't tall enough, short enough, skinny or pretty enough. Before anyone told you you were not right."

This was a powerful, life shifting book for me. It has everything: love, danger, romance, mystery, desire and so much more. I can not recommend it highly enough. If you are looking for a book that touches your heart (and at times even rips it out) give this a try. Download it on your kindle and get it immediately. I am sure you won't regret it!

In "Her Frozen Wild" Ursula spends her time in the basement laboratories examining tattoos and body art of ancient mummies. In her spare time she fights with her cheating husband and listening to stories of the People told to her by her Siberian grandmother. As Ursula stays behind in the states, a team of her colleagues unearths a 2500-year-old mummy, adorned with tattoos and possessing a priestess headdress. As their plane crashes, Ursula is called to Siberia to finish her colleagues' mission of identifying this woman. Blood tests and skin are tested and the mummy's DNA shows significant matches to Ursula's DNA! How can she be connected to a 2500-year-old mummy? Well the answers to this question just scratch the surface of Antieau's plot in "Her Frozen Wild."

Also, as Ursula attempts to conquer her fear of flying in the middle of the Chicago airport, a suave Russian doctor helps her relax. Sergei Ivanovich Polyakov begins to seduce Ursula in his Russian mansion as she waits for her next plane to Siberia. One night she discovers that Sergei possesses the same tattoos as the ancient mummy, causing her to wonder about the connection between her, the mummy, and Sergei. Taken on a quest through time, Ursula begins to piece together this strange puzzle as Antieau creates a beautiful story centered on finding your true self and releasing the inner beast within.

I found this novel to be truly magical, filled with details that will make the reader feel as if they are standing next to the mountain in Altai, Siberia with Ursula. Ursula tries to find herself as she untangles details from her past, including the disappearance of her mother 30 years ago. In addition to breathtaking scenery, Antieau adds some steamy sex scenes into the mix.

First, may I just say, what's not to love about a lady who loves Barnabas Collins/Dark
Shadows, Mr. Darcy, Emily Dickinson, Jane Eyre, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Alien's Ripley, and
her own husband as her best friend? And, who writes fantastical novels about mystical
women... I think Kim Antieau is an eccentric sort or woman with a bent toward acting
"normal" because she finds it amusing. I like that she describes herself as someone who
goes behind her closed door for long periods of time to "do things" (I take that to mean her
writing and research), then comes out one day, peeking around her door to see if there's
anybody still out there. It's an "after thought." Are there still real people out there!
LOL I love that! I also love that she's an old fashioned librarian...one who is vigilant
about keeping books alive for us.

That being said, Ms Antieau is also quite an accomplished author. Sad to say, I'm not
familiar with others of her books, but I intend to be. Based on my reading of "Her Frozen
Wild," I can hardly wait!

"Her Frozen Wild" begins with an expedition in Siberia that uncovers a woman's body replete
with markings like tattoos. It is obvious to all the archaeologists involved that the woman
is some kind of shaman/princess. Her mtDNA which apparently matches Ursula Smith's, an
American archaeologist, brings them all together to solve the mystery of the frozen
princess's history. Ursula's mother's disappearance 30 years prior in the same location,
her instincts and her connections with her Russian male counterpart to the scientific
research work together to create the foundation of this startling novel.
