Lucas has always been a part of Lia's life, the best friend to her big brother, and has owned her heart for years. After the tragic loss of her parents, he was the one to comfort her in her grief but pulled back when she wanted more then he was ready to give.
Lucas has been in love with Lia for years but has held himself back until he felt the time was right and he thinks now is the time but fate might have other ideas and throws obstacles in their way at every turn!
This is a sweet love story with a hard edge. As Lia and Lucas's love blooms, life is as real as it gets and they must decide to either face it together or let it tear them apart.
Great job with the beginning of this new series Linda Joyce!
Gifted copy for an honest review.
Her friends and family, especially her brother, Craig, believe Lia is wasting her time and talent languishing away on the farm. But Lia is determined. She has an ‘I will not fail’ attitude even though the debts are piling up and Lucas, the only man she has ever loved, seems to see her as only, Craig’s little sister.
Lucas Dwyer, returns from Afghanistan, to discover the bank has foreclosed on his family’s farm. He starts over with a combining-for-hire business, to help local farmers and to help support his sister. He has also promised his best friend Craig, that he will keep local guys away from Lia. But the problem is-he is in love with her himself. He wants to let her know how he feels but the timing is never right.
When the weather turns nasty and threatens to destroy her crops, Lia knows she will lose the farm. Without the crops, there is no way to pay the looming mortgage. She puts out a call for help, but can anyone reach her in time? Will the timing every be right for a future with Lucas?
‘Her Heart’s Desire’ is the first book in the new Sunflower series by Linda Joyce. It is a beautifully written story with emotional twists and turns. Ms. Joyce captures the picturesque beauty of America’s heartland and captivates you with her attention to detail of life in small town America. Reading this book will have you longing for a cup of coffee, with good friends, at the Sunflower Café.
Craig Britton only has his little sister's best interest at heart, and what's best for her is selling the family farm so she can paint in the city. He has a buyer for the family farm and all he needs to do is convince his sister to sell her half. He enlists the help of his best friend to run interference in Lia's love life so she will want to move back to the city.
Dating, having feelings or falling in love with your best friend's little sister is a no-no. Lucas Dwyer worked hard at doing the right thing, standing in as a big brother for his best friend, but when a new man in town asks Lia out, he can no longer hide his feelings for her. He can no longer be an ally to Craig and must confess his part to Lia, but can he convince her of his true feelings? After suppressing his feelings for his best friend's little sister and running interference in Lia's love life, Lucas Dwyer, "solid, simple, true" has waited long enough and hopes he hasn't missed his chance.
The book starts a little slow, but Linda Joyce uses a nice turn of phrase and good descriptions which bring Harvest and her characters to life, including flaws and quirks. She creates a real world with tension, tears, obstacles, and sex. Love the sex. Most people are not as unlucky as Lia or have that many obstacles to overcome, but that's what made this book interesting for me and kept me turning the pages. You know when Lia loads merchandise in a rickety trailer something is bound to happen. Just what, you have to read for yourself. Linda sets the stage for future books. Who stole the paintings? Who set the fire? Will she reconcile with family?
My main complaint is the story ended too soon. Luckily for me, Linda Joyce is working on her next book in the Sunflower series and you can read an excerpt at the end of this book.
