Lucas has always been a part of Lia's life, the best friend to her big brother, and has owned her heart for years. After the tragic loss of her parents, he was the one to comfort her in her grief but pulled back when she wanted more then he was ready to give.
Lucas has been in love with Lia for years but has held himself back until he felt the time was right and he thinks now is the time but fate might have other ideas and throws obstacles in their way at every turn!
This is a sweet love story with a hard edge. As Lia and Lucas's love blooms, life is as real as it gets and they must decide to either face it together or let it tear them apart.
Great job with the beginning of this new series Linda Joyce!
Gifted copy for an honest review.
Her friends and family, especially her brother, Craig, believe Lia is wasting her time and talent languishing away on the farm. But Lia is determined. She has an ‘I will not fail’ attitude even though the debts are piling up and Lucas, the only man she has ever loved, seems to see her as only, Craig’s little sister.

He starts over with a combining-for-hire business, to help local farmers and to help support his sister. He has also promised his best friend Craig, that he will keep local guys away from Lia. But the problem is-he is in love with her himself. He wants to let her know how he feels but the timing is never right.
When the weather turns nasty and threatens to destroy her crops, Lia knows she will lose the farm. Without the crops, there is no way to pay the looming mortgage. She puts out a call for help, but can anyone reach her in time? Will the timing every be right for a future with Lucas?
‘Her Heart’s Desire’ is the first book in the new Sunflower series by Linda Joyce. It is a beautifully written story with emotional twists and turns. Ms. Joyce captures the picturesque beauty of America’s heartland and captivates you with her attention to detail of life in small town America. Reading this book will have you longing for a cup of coffee, with good friends, at the Sunflower Café.
Let me say this upfront: I'm not typically a romance novel reader. I find them to be unrealistic with little in terms of plot and with mushy endings. Linda Joyce's book though is the exception to the rule I'm happy to say.
Art teacher Lia returns to the family farm after her parents untimely death. Her brother Craig prefers to sell the farm but Lia insists on keeping it, despite Craig insisting that she's wasting her time. She receives some help from Lucas, Craig's best friend. Lucas is a veteran whose family's farm has been sold and who has also been the object of Lia's affections for years. The novel sees Lia facing trials and tribulations and she tries to save the farm with Lucas' help while the two kindle a romance.
Despite not being much of a romance reader, I throughly enjoyed this book. It had some great characters and a strong plot, something that I find missing from most books. I'm looking forward to seeing where these characters go next.
I look forward to reading more of the author's work. Five out of Five Stars.
