Editorial Reviews

A constant visitor to the charts in the first half of the '50s, Georgia Gibbs failed to leave as strong an imprint as many of her fellow stars, at least in part because of her versatility. She did ballads, straight Pop, novelties, Pop-Jazz, cha-chas whatever the marketplace might take, she could adapt. This 27-track CD showcases some of Gibbs finest performances. Bygone Days. 2008.

By Matthew G. Sherwin HALL OF FAMETOP 500 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on June 5, 2009
Format: Audio CD
Georgia Gibbs could take any song and make it sound so fresh and new; she truly deserves to be remembered more than she is today. However, maybe with sales of her CDs like this one that will change and she will get new fans in our times! Georgia possessed a world of talent and it showed every time she sang; and that's pretty special. The quality of the sound on this CD is really pretty good considering the age of these recordings and that artwork is terrific.

"The More I See You" starts the album with Georgia outdoing even herself; her voice is as clear as a bell and I'm very impressed. The music fits in well with her vocals, too. "Ballin' The Jack" is a fun number that was very popular in its day; how's about that brass? Georgia sings does "Ballin' The Jack" with all her heart and soul; and it's a major highlight of this CD. In addition, "I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine" gets the royal treatment from Georgia who never skips a beat as she delivers this faultlessly. Great!

"Baubles, Bangles And Beads" charms me with its natural beauty; Georgia does this up right and the strings are used to great advantage on this track. "Make Me Love You" shines bright with Georgia sings this very passionately; I could never tire of hearing Georgia Gibbs singing "Make Me Love You." "My Favorite Song" is easy on the ear; and listen for "He's Funny That Way." "He's Funny That Way" features Georgia squarely front and center--right where she belonged and will always belong! "Seven Lonely Days" is another tune that's easy on the ear even though the lyrics aren't all that happy; and I really like "I Love Paris." Georgia interprets this with great sensitivity and I'm amazed at how good she sounds.
