Lena Lowery is struggling with a life-threatening brain tumor. She and her mother go to an old plantation house turned into a bed and breakfast for a getaway before her surgery. There Lena is transported back to 1864 when the plantation house was turned into a hospital for wounded Confederate soldiers. She finds one soldier, Caleb Dockery, both infuriating and magnetic.
There were some minor errors, like “you’re” for “your,” and “died” for “dyed,” and the pronouns for God weren’t capitalized. Lena goes back and forth between modern times and the past much too often at first, and the way she did it was very inconsistent and never explained. In fact, many of the plot points brought up were never developed or explained. The story would have been stronger and better for me without the ghosts. In my opinion, they have no place in a Christian novel. However, the story itself is still entertaining.
