Editorial Reviews

...Gordon yet again offers a historical romance that's not only extremely vibrant with details and memorable characters, but also adds that touch of humor that makes her series stand out from the rest. This is a truly fun plot... RT Book Reviews, 4-Stars

Being the third book in this series one would think that the story could start to slip, but that just hasn't happened here. Again the characters were so well rounded and full bodied that they could live off the pages in the real world and still be just as amazing as they are on the page.--Romantic Crush Junkies-eZine

"Her Secondhand Groom is a lovely little Regency and shouldn't be missed"--Rakehell

About the Author

Rose Gordon is a USA Today bestselling author and writer of eight bestselling, unusually unusual historical romances that have been known to include scarred heroes, feisty heroines, marriage-producing scandals, far too much scheming, naughty literature and always a sweet happily-ever-after. When not escaping to another world via reading or writing a book, she spends her time chasing two young boys around the house, being hunted by wild animals, or sitting on the swing in the backyard where she has to use her arms as shields to deflect projectiles AKA: balls, water balloons, sticks, pinecones, and anything else one of them picks up to hurl at his brother who just happens to be hiding behind her.

Secondhand Groom by Rose Gordon Book 3 in the Grooms Series
Rose continues her excellent story telling in this third book of the Grooms Series. Patrick Ramsey, Lord Drakely, had married a beautiful girl named Abigail when he was eighteen. She died in childbirth with their third daughter, Kate. To the outside world it looked as it was such a deep and devoted love that he could not move past it, but was all as it seemed? Now Drake feels the need to find a mother and governess for his three daughters,
Celia, Helena and Kate. When he comes across the Hughes family, who were indebted to him for sending their daughter to school and a season, he decides he'll marry the beautiful Juliet Hughes and she can be the girls motherness. Drake plans everything out to perfection, so what if he did not include his bride to be in his decisions.

Juliet Hughes had failed. Her parents were in debt because they had hopes on her finding a good and wealthy husband when they sent her to school and a season. If only her sister Henrietta would have been the recipient of such a gift. Henrietta was beautiful and would have succeeded. Juliet was plain and had awkward looking eyeglasses as well. At least she could school her younger siblings. After a negative run in with Lord Drakely, she dubbed him Lord Presumptuous as he presumed to always be right and worthy to be obeyed. When she overheard him asking to be affianced to her she was angry. Only he presumed wrong this time, he thought Henrietta was Juliet. She tried to explain but he brushed her off. She was going to give him a scare before the wedding but it backfired and she ended up married to the beast.

We get to meet many of our past friends and characters once again in this book, even the beastly Olivia and the endearing Sir Wallace. Marcus has his turn to give Drake advice on love and life while Emma and Caroline befriend Juliet.

**There are sexual situations within marriage.

I have read all 3 books in the Groom series and I think this was my least favorite. There were parts to the story that I loved but I wasn't thrilled with the overall story. It was nice to read about a hero that wasn't as secure with himself in the bed as most are rakes and rogues from this time period that we read about.

Viscount Drakely and Juliet meet rather accidentally and she ends up taking his daughter's home with her to "babysit" them while he fixes a carriage issue. After picking up the girls and heading home he finds that his daughters not only had a good time but also learned some! He mistakes Juliet for her younger much prettier sister and insists upon a wedding. Juliet tries to tell him of his error but he won't listen. Surprise when it's Juliet at the altar and not her sister!

Since his plan was to find a "mother-ness" for his daughters, he is upset but willing to overlook the error as he wants a mother for his daughters that will also act as the governess. Juliet is stuck and none too happy about it. She doesn't understand why Drake doesn't even have any intention of consummating the marriage. When they finally do, you learn that he is very nervous as the late Lady Drakely was not interested and quite turned off by sex. After some convincing that she does actually like it, the 2 begin to share passionate nights together. After a fight and a misunderstanding Juliet leaves and Drake must get her back into his home by letting her know she is already in his heart.

I've read all 4 of the books in this series and this book was by far my absolute favorite. It resonated with me on a personal level, and that is probably part of the reason it is my favorite.

The lovestory between Drake and Juliet is amazing and so true to life. They both came into the relatonship looking for something other than love, love was "second-rated" to Drake, but Juliet wanted love just never thought she'd get it from her strange new husband.

As Juliet and Drake become closer we find out what secrets each is holding back from the other. In Drake's case it is a secret which could affect his marriage for the duration. Thankfully Juliet is understanding, loving, and caring enough to help him get through his block (only word I can think of at this time to describe why he feels like he can't be a good husband).

As in the previous two books of the series we find flawed men; in book 1 Alex is flawed mostly by just being a man; in book 2 we see a physical flaw; in book 3 we find an emotional flaw. As most women will agree, most men are flawed in some manner or another, regardless of their looks, but to truly love someone you must get past their flaws and see the real man inside. Ms Gordon let's us see the real man, fear, flaws and all.

Patrick Ramsey, Viscount Drakely lost his wife and has been left with three little girls to look after. With a governess that is less than satisfactory, Patrick has begun to think of taking a wife. He is not sure of quite how he will go about it or who he would like until he happens upon a local village girl, Juliet Hughes. Juliet, not knowing at first who the man is is shocked that he would let his children play in the road when a carriage could come flying by any minute while they are waiting for their carriage to be repaired and tells him so. Drakely promptly charges her to take care of them in an abrupt manner that she can hardly refuse because as she soon learns, he is a viscount.

Being the oldest in the family, Juliet was sent to school and given one season to find a husband. When she failed at securing one, her family was left in great debt to Viscount Drakely. While nowhere near ugly, she is not as beautiful or delicate as her younger sister, Henrietta, and always hides behind her thick glasses. She takes comfort in teaching her younger siblings all the things she has learned at school; Drakely's children are enchanted with her and when he comes to pick them up he finds that they do not want to leave her. Drakely assumes Juliet to be her younger, prettier sister and decides on the spot that he will make a deal with Mr. Hughes - he will forgive him of his debt if he marries him to his eldest within the week. Juliet knows his mistake and tries to tell him of it, but as he brushes her off on his way out the door, Juliet decides to teach him a lesson in manners by pretending to be her sister right up to "I do." As a veiled bride Juliet walks down the aisle, but stays veiled until after the "I do" - something not in the plan.
