I am an herbalist, forager, homesteader, and a from scratch cooker seeking to lead a more holistic sustainable lifestyle. I am also a mother to a large family and a wife to an amazing man living in the beautiful and bountiful Willamette Valley in western Oregon.

When not consulting with clients, creating herbal medicines and new recipes, and writing books or for my blog, I spend my time tending to and renovating our 100 year old farmhouse and wistfully dreaming of someday nearing completion -- however unlikely that might be on a working homestead!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nourishing for the Holidays or Any Day!
By Homestead Lady on December 10, 2019
I was fortunate to receive this book just before the holidays! I'm planning to use both the turmeric ginger ale and the flour-less torte for my New Year's family celebration. In fact, I let the kids look over the book as soon as it arrived and pick what they wanted since they liked Devon's last book so much. Her other book, The Backyard Herbal Apothecary was used all year at my house for foraging - we even made the cedar soap recipe from it for Christmas gifts!

Like Backyard Herbal Apothecary, Herbalist's Healing Kitchen is organized for the herbalist with clear organization, herbal action sections and easy to read formatting. It also happens to be a really stellar cookbook on top of all that! There's something here for every diet, too, so if you're low-carb or gluten free you'll be able to find recipes that work for you.

I keep coming back to how handy it is to have for the holidays - probably because it's that time of year. One problem we have, even as a family that eats healthy, is that sugar intake and stress levels invariably go up once October hits. Devon's book provides me with every day recipes that provide herbal protection, nutrition and healing for this fun but gut-stressful time of year. Plus, I'm able to start some new food traditions with these recipes!

Can't wait to see what Devon writes next!

*I received a review copy, though that in no way influenced my review. These are the actual thoughts that I thunk. I'm an unabashed fan of Devon's writing.
