The Hercules DJ Console 4-Mx is a large DJ controller with a durable metal casing, built-in audio, and large jog wheels. This all-in-one mixing station for the serious DJ features a 2-4 deck controller to mix digital audio tracks, 2 stereo outputs to play the mix for the audience and preview next track, and 2 stereo inputs to include turntables, MP3 or CD players in your mix. It's especially built for professional DJing: it's large enough for comfortable mixing, compact enough to transport to the gig, and there's no need for a separate audio interface.

Touch-Sensitive Jog Wheels

The two large 4.7" jog wheels feature weight sensors to detect the hand's weight on the jog wheel top, for fine adjustments during the mix. They're great for scratching and seeking within audio tracks.

While the track plays, you control the DJ software with two actions on the jog wheel: rotation, to control movement within the track, or press down to control scratching. Thus, during audio track playback, you can pitch bend, scratch, and start or stop playback, just like using a real vinyl scratching turntable.

Built-in Audio for Mobile and Club DJs

4-channel output gives you the flexibility of stereo line output for the mix, plus stereo headphone output for previewing tracks. A microphone input with talk-over function means there's no need to carry an audio interface. There are two independent stereo outputs on the rear panel, with four RCA connectors to connect to a stereo system or recorder as well as four 1/4" mono connectors to connect to a public address amplifier or speakers.

A ground lift switch on jack outputs 1-2 protects the sound in the event of a ground loop. A 1/4" headphone jack stereo output, located both on the top panel and on the front panel, plays the same channels as outputs 3-4 on the rear.

Two independent stereo inputs with 4 RCA connectors let you select the audio source type in the DJ Console 4-Mx control panel, including phono/consumer line/pro line/boost. Boost mode supports +8dBu signal level (for use with Pioneer CDJ players, for example). If the audio sources are vinyl turntables at phono level, you can connect the turntables’ ground cables to the DJ Console 4-Mx’s grounding screw.

A 1/4" microphone jack mono input, located on both the top panel and the front panel, can be set as a talk-over source (default mode), so the microphone is played on outputs 1-2 over the music in the background, using the music attenuation level set in the DJ Console 4-Mx control panel (0dB, -3dB, -6dB or -9dB). Or set it as a standard source, replacing inputs 1-2. The DJ Console 4-Mx pre-amplifies the microphone input by up to +34dB.

2- and 4-Deck Control (A/B/C/D)

2 deck controls plus 2 deck switches convert deck A into C, and deck B into D, letting you control 4 virtual decks. Deck switches convert all deck controls into another set of MIDI commands, plus mixer volume and EQ controls. Deck viewers light up the letter of the controlled deck, while the backlighting color of jog wheels changes to indicate which virtual deck is being controlled.

User-Friendly Features

The DJ software included with the Hercules DJ Console 4-Mx suggests cue points in the audio file analysis, getting you mixing and producing quickly. Synchronize tracks using pitch encoders and/or sync buttons, and create automatic loops on 1, 2, 4 or 8 beats. Add effects to customize your music, then record your mixes as audio files.

I would just like to say my experience purchasing this product was great! It was delivered on time as stated on the expected shipping. I thought it would come in on the last arrival day, however it showed up early on the first expected delivery date. Since I was anxious I tracked it all the way through and was surprised to see it shipped the same day I ordered it, within a couple hours from my purchase time.

The product is amazing so far! Best console I have used to date. It may not be ready right out of the box for some deejays, but for me the configurations are okay for now. Even when messing with the settings rest assured that if you are not satified with them or if you re-arrange what buttons do when pushed, you can always hit the default button and you're back.

The jog wheels are just as described, touch sensitive and can take a beating. They are able to be pushed down incase you have heavy hands when scratching. I have not changed the latency settings to get the best possible scratching yet, however out of the box they are fine. If you are a turntablist I would definately watch some youtube videos to read up on some better configuration settings for this area. These are the best jog wheels made on a Hercules Controller. The top of them are not cd size though, slightly smaller. If you put a cd on top of one of the jogs maybe the overall size around the rubberized part is equal in size to a cd.

Overall I'm satisfied with all aspects of this controller. It is light in weight and extremely portable for those of us on the go, however it packs a punch and all the buttons are laid out very nicely. If you are looking for a great combination of effects with the mixer on a dj controller this is it! Kill switches, rotary knobs and interchangable effects on buttons make this one stand out by far!

If you are thinking of getting a RMX or 4Set I would suggest holding out for this one instead.

I've had this a few weeks now and i must say i'm greatly satisfied. easy to set up and works extremely well. The user manual is less than useless however. I have been a dedicated user of virtualdj and was looking for a controller that minimizes connections, portable, economic yet powerful, attractive, durable, and has a built in sound card. The 4-MX satisfies most of my needs. The upgrade of the jogwheels are accepted, however, the is still that feeling of non immediate response with it which can be improved, (nothing can beat an actual turntable). This piece of hardware has actually allowed me to perform remixes and mashups that are on par or even surpass those that other DJ's do using more expensive equipment and Serato. Basically, you have a digital library of music and looking for hardware to dj using your pc, whether it be desktop or laptop, 4-mx is the way to go. even if you have older equipment, it is a great upgrade. being a midi controller means that you can use time coded vinyls if your a turntablist. The built in sound card means that it is exactly like any other professional mixer in terms of input output connectivity. Being USB powered means easy connectivity...go to the club pull out you laptop, plug the mixer to it via usb and the output to the club's mixer and you're up and running when you power your laptop. the default software is good, however, virtualdj 7 pro is amazing and allows you to be competitve with even the best serato users at an affordable rate, would recommend to anyone at a beginner level to advanced.

Currently using this with Traktor Pro 2 on a Mac. After updating firmware, installing the drivers and importing TP2's template all functions of the controller were mapped and ready to go. Previously used a Hercules Rmx, it was good except for the jog wheels. I like to mix old school without using the sync. The pitch controls, faders and knobs feels good. Jog wheels have a bit of give in them. Pushing down on the jogs activates the turntable function allowing you to manipulate the sound as if it were a record on the turntable. Very nice. The 4mx feels good and after a few hours I felt comfortable mixing with it. I run the main out to a mixer. After settings the levels, the sound quality is very good. The 4mx body is metal as are the sliders and faders. Knobs and buttons are plastic. Includes a nice gig bag. This controller can handle some punishment. Its built solid unlike some other controllers that cost alot more but are made of plastic.

I've only been mixing for about a year. I've had Traktor Pro (4 decks) for about 10 months, and up until I bought this console was using Traktor strictly through the GUI.

At a generic level, I hadn't comprehended how much better at mixing you can be, by having a hardware controller. Silly as it may be, I hadn't really understood the linear limitations of only being able to change one control (knob, slider, what have you) at a time (you can only change one setting at t time via mouse - duh).

I was instantly mixing a lot more smoothly, because I could simultaneously adjust EQ, channel volumes etc. Again, not sure why it took me so long to understand this.

So, what I just mentioned this console does very well. All in all the console is extremely well built (including being physically solid), and straight-forward to use. I could see it being used at almost any level, but then again I am a relative newby.

If you use Traktor, the console integrates seamlessly with the software (my setup is a 4 deck - for which this console is designed).

Couple of minor cons:
1) It does not control all four decks simultaneously. You have to toggle A/C or B/D (Upper/Lower). THIS IS IN THE PRODUCT OVERVIEW, so not a con, so much as something to be aware of. I'm finding myself wanting to load and control 4 decks, and toggling tends to slow the flow for me. On a plus side, the toggle has its advantages - less clutter, and less sliders to accidentally bump into. So this comes down to whether this setup suits your style.

2) For some inexplicable reason, every once in a while the console and Traktor stop talking to each other. This doesn't happen often, but when it does you have to unplug/replug the USB.
