This book has no story. It just presents words to the reader and some words are not even familiar to a little person. Not sure why they chose some of the words. You could easily use flash cards to replace this book. Don't bother.

I liked the idea of a book to teach the 'silent e' concept; however, it's poorly executed. Odd word choice, weak story. My son rejected it within a couple minutes which is incredibly unusual for him. I read through it and regret purchasing. It's now in the donation pile.

My daughter will be 4 years old next week. She and I have been happily reading this book about "silent e" for several months now. We enjoy the DVD "Code Word Caper" from Leap Frog, that also presents the "silent e." We have starting on her learning to read, and she knows the sounds that each letter "makes." This book will help her remember that the vowel letters can also "say their name."

In addition to simply reading this book with her, I often put my thumb over the "silent e" and read the word that remains. That is, after reading each two-page spread (e.g. " ... kit ... kite"), I put my thumb over the "e" in "kite" and say "kit," remove the thumb and say "kite," put the thumb over the "e" again and say "kit," and take off my thumb and say "kite."

I used this book in conjunction w/a lesson on silent e or what we call "magic e" at the end of cvc words-it kicks the vowel to say it's name. The book was the perfect length and in great condiiton and delivered on time!

My wife uses these books in her first grade classroom and the kids love them. Recommended for young or starting readers.

Great story to help my tutees understand how Mr. e at the end of words makes the vowel in the word say his name instead of his sound!!!
