About the Author
GINA GRAHAM is an illustrator and art teacher in Chattanooga, TN. She loves to create joyful, uplifting art to offer the hope found in God's love. Art is restorative to Gina, helping her thrive through injury and illness. In 2005 she had an accident that instantly took the vision from her right eye. Though she was teaching art at the time, her bigger dream was to have an art career. Realizing that nothing is guaranteed, she started drawing toward that goal the day after her accident, and hasn't stopped. Her retina was damaged but Gina regained all but a tiny blind spot in her vision. Gina is also a cancer survivor. In 2013 journaling and doodling around scripture helped her thrive through the months of complications after surgery. Many of the images in this book came from that precious time of healing.

The pages are thick and just slightly textured, so that I was able to use my Crayola adult fine line markers with no smearing, shadowing, or other adverse side effects. The journaling lines are spaced only slightly smaller than wide-ruled notebook paper, so there's little worry about writing too big or using wide tipped instruments.
I greatly appreciate the size of the book itself (10"x10") - making it too big to carry in a purse, but perfect for a lap desk or simply resting on your lap due to it being a very sturdy hardback design. I found the artwork itself to be very creative while still being realistic, giving me the option of sticking to realism or using colors appropriate to the mood or feelings I wished to convey. I also found it helpful that, unlike some coloring books, the picture on the front cover is a very good indicator of the artwork style found inside.
I would recommend this coloring journal to anyone looking to add a bit of coloring inspiration to their journaling time, or a bit of journaling to their coloring time. The scripture references are well chosen and suited to each picture, and each page will leave you with something positive to reflect on. 5/5 stars.

Gina Graham has designed beautiful and whimsical pictures, some with Scripture verses and some without, in this journal that measure 10.1 inches square. There are plenty of lines amidst the pictures of birds, animals, flowers, adorable people, and other whimsical designs. They are indeed happy pictures to color and they are all on thick paper to minimize bleed-through.
I have read that coloring reduces stress and these designs feel especially stress-reducing to me. Journaling also is said to reduce stress. Putting the two together in this gorgeous book should make for some "happy" to think about. People of all ages could enjoy this book too. The designs aren't too tiny for those of us who like larger designs like I do. This is a real feel-good coloring journal that would be fun for anyone who enjoys both coloring and journaling. I highly recommend it.
I received Here's Some Happy from Faithwords/Hachette Book Group. I was not required to write a positive review in exchange for the book.
Another thing that stood out to me was how much space you are given to write out your thoughts. There's an even mix of illustrations and writing space. There are also perforated pages included in the journal - if you want to frame one of your drawings - or give them away as gifts.
There are scriptures throughout the journal - so you will get inspired while coloring and expressing your thoughts. I can see why the author named this journal, Here's Some Happy - because this journal will lift your spirits.
