There are some behind-the-scenes anecdotes from The Brady Bunch, but that was only 5 short years of her adolescence. The rest of this poor woman's entire life has been one excruciating ordeal after another. It's hard to look at the photos of her on IMDB.com smiling and looking happy when at any given point she was experiencing such misery. Her early childhood itself is a bizarre tale, unlike any I've read before. My heart goes out to her poor mother. She says that her mother is the strongest person she's ever known, and for very good reason. After The Brady Bunch, she goes through years -- a decade or more -- of drug abuse, but even when she gets clean (primarily through her faith in God, people who love her and own sheer will-power rather than expensive rehab) she gets no relief. She becomes a born-again Christian, marries a fabulous (and sexy) man who absolutely adores her, has a beautiful daughter, and still suffers mentally. Once she seems to get some relief from her mental ordeal, her family falls completely apart in the most appalling way, and it seems that, as the book went to press, there was yet no resolution in that situation. I came away from this feeling as if I should add her to my permanent prayer list that God will someday grant her a little peace. It is just relentless and a must-read, even if you never were a Brady fan.
