I chose this one because it was economical as well as attractive, and was a good size to fit the pizzas I was planning to make that are usually about 16”, which I think is equivalent to a “medium” sized pizza.
The peel is easy to use. Just put a little cornmeal on it and your uncooked pizza will slide smoothly into your oven onto your stone. I also use it to hold the pizza on after it’s done cooking, as well as for cutting it. I was previously using my everyday cutting board and while it worked, I feel more comfortable using this peel for my cutting since it’s dedicated to pizza making. No fear of contamination of any other foods I may have cut on it before that. The only thing I’d say is that it does scratch just like any other wood cutting board, but that’s to be expected.
As for cleaning, I just wash it with warm water and a little dish soap, and it comes off clean. I don’t ever put it in the dishwasher, so I can’t comment on how it will hold up. I would imagine it would decrease its lifespan.
Overall, this is a really nice pizza peel, and if you make a lot of homemade pizza, your house shouldn’t be without one!
Really like this pizza peel! A little cornmeal on the surface then lay down your dough. Slides right off onto the stone in the oven. Then when the pizza is done it effortlessly slides under the pie in one or two shorts jabs. Then it doubles as a cutting/serving board. The color is very nice and rich. Clean up is easier that using it too! Just wash it off with some warm water and hand dry. It’s found a permanent home hanging on my kitchen wall. (Doubles at art Work lol)
P.s. I paid full price for this peel and I’ll probably buy another one!
The two things I've stuck to while using my "pizza spatula" is dusting with corn meal to help the pizza slide off and on to the pizza stone in the oven. Then we also only wipe it down with a damp soapy sponge, rinse with water, and dry immediately. As I've said we have now used it several times and it still works and looks great.
