I write what I know.
If you follow my Always the Good Girl page on Facebook, you know I talk about positivity and overcoming your past quite often. My words about being stronger than you realize, taking one step at a time to change your life, and never quitting...those are the words I've said to myself when I needed them most.
Every single story I write has at least one true thing. An actual piece of my personal life or past inserted within the plot. My past is not the inspiration for any of my writing because I did not find it inspiring. However, if I'm writing and see a place where my own life...my own fight for survival...will add to the story, give it a layer of realism, then I add it.
I know how to fight. I know how to keep going. I know that negativity is cyclical. I know that no matter what life throws at me - I can overcome it.
I can and I have - and so can you.
That is what I put into my writing. There may be characters you love or characters you hate. I might hurt a character you adore and cause you pain. You might not enjoy an overall story...but you will not see quitters on my pages.
The men are strong and often, the women are stronger. In the real world, women must be strong - mentally and emotionally, physically if possible - because we are higher-risk for just about everything from birth. That is a fact.
The chances that you or someone you know has been victimized is very high. We might not be able to fight the odds and that is brutally honest and disgusting. We can fight to survive trauma, fight to win back our peace, fight to keep going. Always, always...we can fight. It is that message I most want to convey in my writing. I have a few "fluff" pieces that are sweet and vanilla for the most part.
My main body of work - current and future - is survival erotica. If one character, one story arc, one situation resonates with my readers and shows them that they can fight, that they can keep going, that they can still win no matter what has happened - I've accomplished my primary goal.
I hope you enjoy books such as Gravity, Obsession, Damaged, and The Hermit as much as I loved writing them.
