So, raise your hand if you've ever secretly crushed on a superhero and wished that they were real and that they would swoop in your window late at night and whisk you away. No? Just me? Lol. Well, now you know my secret fantasy!!

My bare hands have served me well so far. They are my weapons. My skin my shield, my strength, my lifeline, and Cataline, my motivation.

Hero was a bit of a difficult story to wrap my head around at first. It totally stands apart from anything else that I have ever read. At some points, I wondered if it was gonna go in a paranormal type direction. It just kept me guessing the whole time. I was expecting a Stockholm syndrome story, which it is but there is also a superhero element to it that I LOVED!!! Sure, we have all gotten our share of our fave superheros like Batman, Superman, Iron Man... to name a few of my personal faves...sigh. But, usually those come in big-time blockbusters that are heavy on the action and adventure and kinda low on the romance by comparison, right? Well, this is a superhero story in the dark romance genre and let me tell you, IT TOTALLY WORKS!!

The Story:
Hero is the self-imposed protector of New Rhone. The city has fallen victim to high crime and increased drug activity for which the Riviera Cartel is to blame. The police see Hero as a nuisance and a source of humiliation but to Hero, this is all that he was ever meant to be.

"I have the instincts of a killer, but the intentions of a hero."

He has been watching Cataline from afar for years...16 to be exact. She's an obligation, a resounding reminder of a one time failure, an unpaid debt.

Cataline, on the other hand, leads a quiet life. She has her boring clerical job where she ogles the big boss from afar, by day.

Leighton has created a masterpiece here.

Many say dark and for traditional romance this is true, but if you are at all into s&m or tops and bottom play, this is rather just perfect.

Kidnapped the main lady fights with what she finds pleasurable and what her mind tells her is right.

The man man, an anti-hero, fights within himself to control his darker side and fulfill his parents' wishes... or pay for their sins.

The book hooks you right from the first and doesn't let go. You kind of wish it had dragged on longer in the middle, but even good things must end. (BUT if you want, there is a small little novella she made to extend this book, a sort of aftermath.)

The way this book plays into one's mind is like a sneaky superhero itself. It climbs up to the highest ledge and dangles you over like you have information to spill... you think you have evaded him to run, but then he draws you back into his hands and delivers you to an ending you have to have...

...and you know you will be back to read it again.... if you have been a good pet...

Well worth the read!!! Even if just for your curiosity... READ IT!!!

The book Hero is a shining example as to why I freaking love being a book blogger….I have not only found an amazing book that I have fallen in love with, but I have also found a new author to add to my list of “authors whose books I will read whatever they write” Leighton Del Mia blew me away with Hero not only with a unique plot, but with emotions that I have not really felt in a book before. Oh, and did I mention this is Ms. Del Mia’s debut novel? Well it is, and that only makes it that much more bittersweet.

I have the instincts of a killer, but the intentions of a hero. And a hero’s what I’d be if not for my human impulses and urges -

I am going to be honest, I don’t usually go into a book blindly and I had no idea the premise of Hero. I knew it fell in my wheelhouse cause it was dark and erotic and non con, my favorite kinds of books to read, but what I was not prepared for was being hooked from the very beginning. Calvin Parrish is the captor and Cataline Ford is his captive and all we can hope is that Hero will come save her.

From the beginning, the lead male character Calvin was tough. He was brash, he was arrogant, he was aggressive, he is set in his ways, he teetered on being a rapist and he was unapologetic about his behavior. He was not your typical bad boy that we read about; everything in Calvin was meant for goodness, but he just struggled to reconcile it with his nature of just being a total hot head. I wanted to love him, I wanted to see the goodness but man it was difficult….Calvin was just not likable all the time.

The office is my dreamland and Calvin, my star.

On the flip side, Cataline was pure and innocent. She was emotionally mature and but yet very idyllic in her dreams.

I apologize for the spoiler, but I feel that it is needed to warn readers what they will get with this book

Girl is kidnapped by Hero, girl is scared, crying, screaming, in the dark, inside a locked room. Hero is annoyed with all the noise so he man handles her, painfully pulls her hair, face humps her and then chokes her with his d**k to punish her, all while she's trying to fight him off and unable to see who it is. There is no "oh she is secretly enjoying this", no, this is what it is.

Then a few months later after keeping her caged in the basement with a bucket for a toilet in the dark for a few weeks, (she has her period during this time and is left covered in her own blood for 2 days), Hero is carrying her upstairs to her bedroom from the cage, she demands to be put down so he gets upset and rapes her. Again, not an "oh, she's secretly enjoying it" kinda thing, she fights, screams. Hero throws her, painfully pulls her hair, painfully ties her arms behind her back, forces himself on her while she's screaming, crying, begging him not to do this and that she's a virgin.

I stopped here, at 32% of the book. I found this too offensive and returned it.
It's up to you if you decide to get this. This review is only to serve as a warning to those who do not wish to read this kind of violence.
