A DVD comes with this CD and here you will learn about his heroes, those who played early guitar rock, covering the music of Cash, Cochran, Del Shannon, Everly Brothers, Carl Perkins, Presley and more!! This is a superb collection of oldies, done by the man with the voice, and a superb guitar play himself.
If you are a fan, don't miss out on one of the best live concerts ever, Dion: Live in Concert , and one of my favorites CDs, Yo Frankie . And, don't miss on the anthology complete with booklet King of the New York Streets .
Again, I have heard a lot of covers of "I Walk the Line", but nobody ever comes close to Cash on this one, but Dion. As a matter of fact, I prefer Dion's version! If you are feeling like hearing the oldies, feeling down, feeling in he mood for fun music, you need to hear this wonderful CD collection by Dion. Rizzo
My impression of this cover CD I received today is favorable, though like others in here I didn't think that Walk The Line is one he should have covered. Other than that, I think he did quite well in capturing the essence of these songs. As he said in the accompanying CD, he was trying to be careful to not "copy" the songs. My favorites are "Come On Let's Go", "Summertime Blues", "Bye Bye Love", "Runaway", "Blue Suede Shoes", "Sweet Little Rock and Roller" and of course "The Wanderer".
This is a two fold purchase. You get the CD of "covers"....15 famous songs by the artists who shaped Rock AND a splendid DVD where Dion plays (superbly) and jams and reminisces about those guitar picking artists who shaped the music that would change the world.
He remembers rightly the poets....Chuck Berry ("Little Rock and Roller" is the best number on the CD followed closely by Roy Orbison's "Dream Baby" and Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line." He pays homage to the guitar veterans whose work so well defined the era, James Burton, Scotty Moore and the like. He fondly recalls time spent with these founding fathers of R & R and their "Strats, Gretch's and Martin guitars" while on tour or in NY.
A side note is the wonderful blues guitar playing that also helps to cement and define Dion as a master of the genre.A terrific CD with a more terrific DVD. I could listen to Dion recall his memories of the era till the cows come home.
I did not realize Dion was still singing/playing and sounding so young and alive. I am not into listening to music from earlier generations, but this CD is more than that. It is like what you heard in the late 50's/early 60's, but so much better. The guitar work is outstanding.
I only purchase a few CD's each year and this one was well worth the money.

Great selection of tracks , Dion doesn't disappoint in his own interpretation of these great songs . Highly recommended .

Somehow, while mostly sticking to the original arrangements, he makes them vital again, not modern exactly, but refreshed by adding his own subtle twists, and, of course, one of the greatest voices of popular music.
Now in his early seventies, Dion has been writing, singing, playing music for over 50 years and unlike any other rock star I can think of is still creatively viable as he makes some of the best music of his long career. He's got old, he's not got stale.
Still the tough Italian kid from the Bronx.
Still cool as....
