The prosthesis on the stump of a young man's leg causes constant pain. But his memories might pain him more--not guilt for the blood on his hands, nor pride in his military prowess, but a part of himself that never used to exist, something that makes him different from who he wanted to be. Meanwhile the girl he knew has lost home and family. She shies away from his touch and yet has sacrificed all she had left to find him.
In the past their differences didn't seem to matter--she the master's daughter and he born to serve. But present roles reverse and war maims more than bodies making it hard to believe in hope.
A swift story well-told, Hero's Welcome reveals different kinds of heroes and different welcomes, while two broken people learn to trust each other's love and face the future as one whole.
Disclosure: I got lucky. This book was offered free.
Link, an embittered permanently injured ex-soldier, was from the lower class Dorre race that overthrew the upper class race and now he has arrived to claim his war prize- a large Farlian estate. But then he finds one of the hated Farlians in residence and this one was the one to reject him as a lover when they were younger because he was not good enough. He learns that he was not the only one changed by war when he hears Kasiminda's story and their time together becomes a time of healing.
This was a good short story Sci-Fi Romance that I can recommend to those who enjoy the genre.

Good basic story but way too short. A little futuristic, action, suspenseful with trust and new love beginning. 3.5 stars
A sweet little story, but much too short! The glimpses of the world and of the past were tantalizing, and I wish the story had been much longer.Published on September 2, 2013 by Amazon Customer
I agree with the person who said "too short" - just as I really got inot these characters, the story was over.
On the other hand, there seems ot be room for a sequal. Read more

I realize that this is a short story but it needed more "depth". It was like the author sat down and decided to write an interesting tale in an hour, or less. Read morePublished on June 23, 2013 by Amazon Customer
