The inside is great as it has a protective laptop sleeve and a couple side pockets. Then, the front has another pocket as well. And, the color is amazing!
Some people reviewed that the snaps are difficult or come off, but you just have to be careful with how hard you pull on the straps (just like anything else). This is my first Herschel purchase but it definitely won't be my last.
I am comparing this to Amazon's "Herschel Supply Co. Little America Backpack One Size" (does not include the words "mid-volume"). I purchased this one first and upon receipt knew it would be too tall. The dimensions for this pack are roughly 20" tall x 16" wide. Although her laptop fits better (see photo) in this bag, it is really too tall and big.
The padding on the back and straps is very nice.
A note about the buckled straps. They're aesthetic. Don't unbuckle them. I saw the reviews where people complained about the straps cracking and tearing. When I first got the bag I unbuckled them, thinking that it was the only way to open the bag. And then as I struggled to get them loose, the very end of the strap broke loose from the bag. I thought I 'broke' it before realizing that it was a magnetic clip. The straps are stiff and would be a real pain if you had to unbuckle them every time you need to open the bag.

However... I have used this as my day to day bag for work for about 10 weeks now and the seam at the bottom has already split and a large hole (about 2 inches wide) has opened up, which is really disappointing. What's more, this seller (SHOES.PLEASE) are unwilling to offer a replacement or a refund.
So I am now left with an expensive bag that is 90% OK but largely unusable due to poor manufacturing quality and a poor returns policy from the seller.
Used almost daily with no issues and has dealt with loads of up to 15KG with little to no problems at all. The padding on the side of the bag that faces my back is a nice addition and helps to pad anything heavy or hard inside the back pressing against my back.
Unfortunately after about 1.5 years of owning it, the coating on the leather is flaking off at the top of both straps, looking rather ugly and unsightly.
The bag feels very strong and easily fits a relatively thick 15" laptop in the laptop compartment. Plenty of room elsewhere in the bag for everything else including a useful clip in the frontal pocket.
I absolutely love this - I also did lots of research on whether I would benefit more from Little America or Little America Mid Volume, and I must say I think that going for the smaller size will actually see me get much more use out of it, using it for casual outings as well as a travel bag.
After having read through various reviews myself and examining the bag inside out, I can find no reason at all to believe that this bag is a counterfeit, and if it is, you've done a bloody good job.
Overall I couldn't be more happy with the bag. It has held up well, and whilst not being waterproof, it does a decent enough job of keeping most heavy rain out. It fits a surprising amount of things inside it, so much that I'd be confident travelling with it for a short time. I used it exclusively as my carry-on during a recent trip to Korea (but I did have hold luggage), and it served me very well travelling around Seoul during my trip.
It is quite a large bag, although it doesn't feel particularly big on your back. It looks nice on, although I'm a 6'1" girl, so your experience may vary a lot, especially if you're quite short.
My only grip would be, it has almost zero organisation abilities. I knew this buying it, but honestly it still caught me off-guard. So if not having much organising options will annoy you, perhaps look elsewhere or grab a "grid-it" organiser or something.
- Nice size; large inside pocket with width and height, as well as a small zipped front pocket for small essentials
- Thick padding to the shoulders, lower back, and along straps to ensure that wearing the backpack is not an ache
- Quality finish to the product, double lined in thickness, good grade materials - overall well made
- Small little touches to make it worth more - e.g. a very soft velvet type material for the laptop sleeve, a hook for your keys in the small zipped pocket, elasticated material to keep excess of the strap from annoyingly dangling down but rather sit snug all the way up the strap
- Could possibly be an extra pocket inside the bag, rather than just a large compartment and the laptop sleeve
- Cost; could be more than many peoples budget - HOWEVER, I do believe that this product and many other Herschel products are justifiably more expensive to other market rivals
- Not ideal for everyone, as it is a rather tall bag - therefore if you want to stack your items inside then the bottom ones may become squashed - however this is not a large drawback, just rather to be aware upon purchase that just because it is larger it doesn't mean you can necessarily fit more in, as you may not want to stack delicate products
I highly recommend this well made large backpack, with the added 15" velvet style lined laptop sleeve (which fits my 15.6" laptop snugly). The added front pocket with a zip and a clip for keys is handy. Padding provided is more than sufficient and ensures that you shall not be aching after using this bag for extended periods of time with heavy loads compared to unpadded bags. Little touches like the unboxing, labels, lining, materials and design all ensure that the product you buy and use is worth every penny you spend. Don't hesitate to buy this bag if you like the look of it but are unsure - as it will not disappoint!
I only use it when travelling via train etc for work. When not in the office or car.
To say that I am a ‘heavy user’ or demanding. Would be a gross overstatement.
I would recommend you find a more suitable vessel to carry your expensive items in. Don’t spend such a large sum of money on a nice looking, yet totally woeful product.
Unless you want to live in constant fear that a strap will come loose whilst on your bike etc.
Pull tie has threaded, inner pocket came torn and the outer pocket's magnetic clasp came off a month ago.
For the amount of money spent, I'd expect the bag to last longer than six months
it has a front pouch with a built in clip for your keys/keyring which is quite handy. inside is a felt (or soft material) sleeve compartmental divider for your laptop. There are also two small pockets attached to the upper sides of the inside of the bag that can hold valuables etc making them easy to get to, as this bag only opens at the top so you may have to dig around for things you need at the bottom.
I do like this bag and and had a few compliments about it. it does also make carrying a lot, much easier. so thumbs up from me
I wish it had more 'inner organisation' features, or at least one or two extra outside pockets, but I guess that would go against the amazing minimalistic design.
I've only used it intensively for about two weeks now but it's still in great shape.
