I was looking for a great RPG to quench my thirst after Lunar Silver Star, and Hexyz seems to do the trick. The game allows you install the game to the memory stick, albeit not all the game but enough to make load times virtually non-existent. This is a turn based game, which is about the only kind of RPG I play, I can't stand the strange battle systems that they're coming out with these days. However, the battles incorporate range into the system, which spices it up a bit. Also, during the battles, if you press the R shoulder, it speeds everything up. The graphics are great, load times quick, and the battle system is great. If you can't get it from Amazon, it's on the PSN ready for your money.

I just really felt like saying this game is worth buying.
20 words might not seem like a lot, but I mostly don't have much to say.
I really wanted to rate this since I liked it a lot.

thank god PSP came out with a new RPG. I was getting sick of getting everything for DS. Anyway, this is a must have. Super fun game, lots of customizing. the tuterials are a bit confusing, though worth reading. Though seriously, if you just play through the game, its all really easy to pick up. Its turn based, wiht is fun in its own right, and the story is pretty interesting. The voice overs a pretty decent and the dialog is funny. Over all this is a really great game and worth playing with the lights out and just losing yourself in the story.

Hexyz Force is a wonderful game with interesting characters, a great story, and even better music. However, I am surprised this is being charged over $100 on Amazon, as I bought the game with only $20 at Gamestop. Now, as for the pros and cons:
PROS:
- Great story that is very biblical and has several paths
- Replay value as the New Game+ allows for the game's true ending to be unlocked
- Dual character stories (Cecilla and Levant) adding more information to the story as a whole
- Wonderful music (good mix of Western and traditional RPG game music)
- Battle speed up, which is a good time-saver in the dungeons
CONS:
- Lagging occurs often but not so obvious
- Fusion items are very hard to get, and the rare equipment materials are hard to obtain
- Ragnafact leveling up takes a lot of SP, so it's necessary to level grind quite a bit to get those maxed
- New Game+ carries only SP over, and absolutely nothing else (no equipment, levels, etc)
- Areas have a set perimeter, so it's not like Ys Seven where you can explore many places.
Ultimately, this is a rather fun game, but please do not buy it at above $30.

I am writing a short review of this game to clarify a few points that may be of interest to potential buyers.
First, this game is very easy. To some this is a plus, as you will not have to grind, and there are no frustrating battles to speak of. You can quickly pass through each dungeon environment (the dungeons are mostly very short) to get right to the story. I found the difficulty to be disappointing, as most encounters can be cleared with 1-shot from a hit-all attack. Bosses are no exception - some were down within 2 rounds of combat, and none have provided any sort of challenge requiring the use of strategy or buffs/debuffs (the game has lots of interesting ideas that could have provided great depth, but it feels like it tried to do too much, and failed to fully implement any of these features). There is a hard mode that is unlockable after completing the game, but I don't personally feel like this game is good enough to warrant a replay.
Second, the story is fairly compelling. Nothing that will knock your socks off, but there were moments when i was genuinely interested. To me, the thing that kept me playing is the dialog between characters, which is usually comical, and lighthearted.
Finally, the graphics are okay. Character designs are fun, the 3d models are simple, but they look/control well enough. The dungeons lack flavor, but most are short, so it's forgivable in those cases. I don't mean to say that graphics should always have cutting edge (some of my favorite games are 20+ years old, but with functional graphics), but that they should be made to assist, and/or enhance a game's playability. In this game, the sameness in dungeon tile-sets and layouts makes navigating the few larger dungeons a bit of a problem. The in-game dungeon map does little to alleviate this problem.
In summary, I'd say this is a decent game. It's ridiculously easy, which is fine (or desirable) for some, and a disappointment for others. The crafting system feels weak, and is made less important by the game's lack of difficulty. The game's combat system sounds interesting/complex, but no fight lasts long enough to make use of all that the system has to offer. The graphics are good in most cases, but dungeon designs are uninspired. It feels like a game with a lot of potential, but lacking a sense of completeness. What kept me going is mostly the dialog and, to a much lesser degree, the story. I hope this review is helpful/informative. Please feel free to comment/add suggestions/ask questions.

There is pretty much nothing special here
Reviewed in Canada on November 5, 2017Verified Purchase
An average game, nothing more. There is pretty much nothing special here, this is a standard turn-based RPG with a very standard story. You do get two stories to choose from that intertwines at various points, so that's fun I guess. My main point here is that there's nothing that hasn't been done here and Hexyz Force has nothing special going for it.

All though the game is not different or innovating as RPGs goes, it does a very good job with the standard RPG formula.
Reviewed in Canada on September 19, 2010Verified Purchase
The game is a basic RPG and it does a good job of not needlessly complicating the skills and combat with silly gimmicks. In this game all your skills come from items, there are two kinds of items. The first type are Spirifacts which anyone can use but only have a limited number of uses before they become useless. They make up every type of item like weapons and armour. You can also make new items by fusing multiple Spirifacts together. The second type of items are called Ragnafacts which can only be obtained through divine means from the goddess of creation, all the main characters have these items which only take the form of weapons. The Ragnafacts have no limit to their use and can be upgraded by putting force points (FP) into them that you gain from battle. You can also heal your characters using FP, which is good when healing Spirifacts are out of uses. Combat is very straight forward standard turn based; you use your equipped items to attack, heal and also to cast spells. Only three characters can fight at a time which is annoying because for much of the game you have four characters in the party.
The graphics are good and I had little to no eye strain while playing the game. This is not surprising since it's a PSP game and the graphics are usually great. The only thing I didn't like about the graphics was the world map. It just looks ugly and you don't travel over it you only move a bright dot to the available locations, lame.
No big surprise here, you're on a quest to save the world from destruction. It doesn't get any more standard then that, which isn't too bad if the characters are interesting. Unfortunately the characters are a little to generic, they lack depth and although are not badly done there is a lack of personality that would of taken this game to the next level.
As value goes there is a lot of it. There are two main characters and you can play the game twice to get different perspectives and different parties of characters. Two games for the price of one, thank you Atlus.
Overall I would recommend this game strongly, it's got a few flaws but they're not big ones. It took me 31 hours to finish one play through so to play both stories would take around 50 to 60 hours. Not bad for a $35 game; enjoy it, I did.
