Much like their memoir that this album accompanied, this is a nostalgia tour for both the artists and the fans. This album contains songs that some of us hard core Tegan & Sara fans remember searching for on the early days of video streaming services. Just Me, from the yellow tape, has been reworked into a ballad and re-titled to All I Have to Give the World is Me. Several other, long forgotten yet familiar songs are there if you ever happened to search for Plunk after hearing their usual concert banter.
The teenage melodrama and the feelings we all had while clutching a pillow and crying to Nineteen are ever present in this album. Though it is not the raw emotional wreck that was So Jealous or the Con, it still hits those notes, This is especially true for Don't Believe the Things They Tell You (They Lie) and Keep Them Close 'Cause They'll **** You Too. The Synth pop replaces the guitar driven melodies on most of the tracks (Please Help Me and Hello, I'm Right Here are surprisingly guitar and piano driven and are haunting echos of the past), but the emotions are still there.
If you still long for So Jealous and the Con style music, you'll only find a few tracks that will peak your interest. If, like me, you've like every change (though I admit the Con and Sainthood are my two favorite albums), this is the album for you. It has the old style mixed into Tegan & Sara's current style. I highly recommend this album. It is rewarding for a long time listener and I think newer fans will also relate to sentiments on display on this album, Hey, I'm Just Like You.
