My first outing with these boots was to a weekend long Retriever Hunt Test. I wore them about 16 hours a day, mostly on my feet, for two days. I found them so comfortable I didn't change into my driving shoes for the 6 hour drive home.
I will be buying another pair.
Update March 31st (about 4 months later)
I did buy another pair. I became so comfortable in my first pair I found it hard to wear anything else so I purchased another pair to switch off with.
I spend most of my time training my Labrador and running Hunt Tests. That means a lot of time wet. The boots live up to their waterproof claim.
I did encounter one problem. There is a special locking grommet that holds the laces in place and allows for good ankle support. Unfortunately that grommet wears the laces at that point and the laces don't last very long.I found a solution online. I bought Kevlar laces. Problem solved!
UPDATE: A week of hard work in the mountains during winter & not a wet foot/sock in sight. Still smell brand new too!!! My only compaint is the Vibram sole, of which i have on all my shoes. Ultra tough, long wearing & super chunky, just super slippery on wet SMOOTH rocks & wood. Dont be put off, just be careful. Make no mistake, i WILL buy another pair of these machines WITHOUT hesitation.
eVent lining for waterproof breathability
Stiff enough for long-term use but with very little break-in required
Scuff-resistant synthetic exterior
Heel-lock lacing system (similar to the CCM Externo heel-lock)
And they're stylish with the matte forest green/black/grey exterior. :-)
As with most boots, I need to use green Superfeet to keep my heel in place because I have a small heel relative to my foot size, but you should already know if you are subject to this problem.
Be careful about sizing. I originally purchased size 8 boots because I normally wear a size 8, but these turned out to be half a size too small after 12 hours of hiking, wasting $140 as used boots don't command very much money on the resale market. I recommend finding a store that carries Hi-Tec and trying on sizes until you have just enough room for warm feet.
I just ordered some insoles to use with these for additional comfort, but they are fine by themselves.
Not long after I began using them, I noticed that the gray molding on the sides of the sole is actually white just beneath the surface. For such an expensive pair of boots, one expects a bit of quality and again these boots fall short.
The worst part about these boots is that they leak; they didn't when I first got them, but with fairly infrequent and light use they began to. The leaking isn't horrible, but it shouldn't be happening at all and certainly not for the price that I paid.
About a year and a half into their life the toe box on both boots started to leak while walking in some fall slush. While they were used they were not damaged or worn out. I take very good care of my gear since I am an outdoor educator and local hiking guide. eVent was no help and the boots were outside the warranty for Hi-Tec so they were unable to help. It is disappointing as I really like these boots and they were working so well.
After all of that I would consider buying Hi-Tec again since they at least were helpful. I would even consider buying these boots again if they would not leak on me.
After approximately 15 days of hiking on various day hikes and wearing around the yard, I realized that the grey PU midsole is just colored grey on the outside only, almost like paint. It literally began to rub off just from normal hiking through the woods, exposing the white PU foam underneath.
The boots were returned through Hi-Tec without any problems, but the second pair that arrived already had a few spots of the white showing through that could easily be exposed more with your fingernail.
Currently trying to solve this with customer service - who is quite understanding and helpful - but unless this is an isolated manufacturing issue, these boots are of very poor quality. I'll be sure to update the review when I hear more.

Climbed Pikes Peak with this shoe and it was awesome. No sweaty feet, great ankle protection. Light weight. Suprisingly durable. Sole was grippy and not hard.Published on October 8, 2013 by Run to water
