My foot slid in with complete and utter ease. There is an additional adjustable lace around the ankle to customise support as well. It feels true to size and I am a consistent US 7B and UK 5.
Black complements everything and the delicate mauve stitching adds a lovely subtle pop to it all. I was a little put off by the faux fur at first but it's a minimal trim, so it's not a ridiculously ostentatious style. As you can see from the picture, there is a slight heel. For me, this is the perfect lesson in moderation. Not plain and drab, rather elegantly simple: enough of a heel to define a pleasing silhouette and entirely appropriate for everyday walking.
I've worn shoes with far more cushioned foot beds but don't take that to mean uncomfortable. Quite the contrary. The thick rubber sole provides ample support and when you're trekking across icy pavement and/ or through some inconsiderate miscreant's unshovelled/ unplowed sidewalk, this is imperative. The boots are well constructed and the suede appears to be holding up against the elements. The laces tie easily and do not slip/ come undone the way cheaper ones would.
When your feet are at rest, the 200g Thinsulate is barely noticeable. The mild warmth however, quickly progresses to a cozy toastiness as movement/ speed increases.
Verdict: an essential product at a great price. I checked other online retailers and even with tax, Amazon was still the cheapest. Ergo, if you're not on a work site, battling bears, or stalking penguins, the St. Moritz boots are a reliably warm, waterproof, and cost-effective solution to your winter needs.
Update Jan 5 : There has been no further damage since the fluff fell off the first couple of days. My daughter noted that they are not very good on slippery surfaces. She has fallen twice. She says they still keep her feet warm. She is content.
They are very warm, water-proof and they're pretty cute too. When I first ordered them the picture made them look super bulky. They are kinda bulky but I'd rather have all of my toes intact over something fashionable. I enjoy wearing them, because I don't have to worry about my feet as I trudge to class on Purdue's campus. I'd highly recommend them, after trudging through snow and water and over ice in them. =)
Sidenote: I found that these were the most afordable boots I could find that looked nice and kept my feet safe.
