Not sure if it was EMI or a ground loop, but it's all gone now! I'm impressed and surprised, as this computer/room has proven to be a very dirty RF/EMI environment! Just tested a bunch of the noisiest USB ports and so far they've all come clean with this little guy. Even the noisy LED-backlit gaming keyboard output comes clean, as does a USB3 hub with a bunch of devices on it.
My setup is Desktop PC to monitor to an Audioengine D3 to a DarkVoice 336SE tube amp. The music comes through clean and silent now.
Also works fine with my XDuoo XD-05 DAC/Amp, but that wasn't noisy to begin with as it's battery powered and doesn't drink the dirty USB juice or connect to ground power-wise (it uses a cell phone style wall wart to charge the battery on a separate circuit).
The little black box labeled 'mornsun' does appear to get a little warm, and yeah that blue LED is way too bright, but otherwise this thing is great. I can always apply some black electrical tape if I need to block the light.
Anyway, I mainly got this because I was using my electric guitar and running it through some digital effects and the gain was boosting that high pitch whine making some distortion settings pretty useless. This cleaned the signal up considerably and has made my board a little more flexible in the amount of gain and EQ that I can use.
The lower hum might still be there? I normalized a what should have been a NO signal input in audacity to see what kind of noise existed, and I still think that 60hz was in there with some white noise too, but in my set up with my PC, it's imperceptibly quiet in any scenario outside of this.
With the switch in position for the blue light (full speed), I get the following (the computer sees the microphone,) but still have noise (60 cycle hum).
pi@raspberrypi:~ $ arecord -l
**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****
card 1: Device [(LCS) USB Audio Device], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
pi@raspberrypi:~ $
But with the switch in position for the orange light (isolation on), I get:
**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****
pi@raspberrypi:~ $
This means that the USB device is not seen by the computer.
Update. It took a VERY long time to resolve (?) this because my emails to them kept getting "lost." They declined to send a replacement, and instead offered me "one or two" other items from their store. I chose two things from the catalog, each of which was a 2-piece bundle. Instead of honoring that request, they broke up the bundles, and sent me one of each - the total value was less than that of the ADUM3160 I'd originally ordered.
Then they asked me to up the one-star review as an "incentive to improve their quality control."
WTF?
P.S. It's been well over a week, and I have not gotten the replacement parts.

I wouldn't use this on any device that needs the full speed of a USB 2.0 connection, like an audio interface with lots of channels, or running stereo at 192kHz sample rate. My Focusrite audio interface doesn't work at all when connected via this device, it doesn't completely power up. Some LEDs are lit but the power LED is not, and it does not respond to audio input.
But it solves the problem for my MIDI->USB cable.
The second image is the same setup with adding two of these USB power Isolator adapters to the rig and the PC, and it cleared the signals up! The reason for two, is the usb CAT connection and I have a USB audio dongle to port the audio to/from the radio. Once I hooked up both of the adapters, all the other USB noise went away!
I don't give reviews often, but this one deserves one!

Win10.64bit)
