Hickey: Cursive - Piano and Chamber Works
Sean Hickey, Brooklyn-based and born in Detroit, is one of the most performed and celebrated composers working today. After his charting releases on Naxos (Left at the Fork in the Road) and Delos (Concertos), he returns with a new Delos disc featuring piano and chamber works. Centered on the incredible artistry of Philip Edward Fisher and recorded at the Princeton Theological Seminary, the disc comprises much of the composer's work for solo piano, also including Ampersand, for violin and piano, and Pied-a-terre, for flute, viola and harp.
'...behind this scaffolding is a very personal artistic response to the huge breadth of music that was created in the 20th century when every tradition was challenged. In its reconciliation of these seeming polarities, it is very much music of our own time'. - NewMusicBox
'American composer Sean Hickey comes out swinging with this new recording'. - The Scene
'Every piece is nearly flawless, exciting, and played with tremendous passion. - American Record Guide
'This is music that has everything going for it - melodic, heroic solo parts, symphonic breadth, dynamic form and a sort of post-romantic dash.' - Gapplegate Reviews
