The Hidden Code of Revelation (HCR) is a thoughtful and well-researched commentary on Saint John’s Book of Revelation, which “holds an endless energy and understanding of spiritual transformation.” (p. 3) Anyone interested in this topic will benefit from reading both volumes. As the author states, “no true healing is possible outside of the spiritual context.” (p. 149)
N. Demetry makes good use of his thirty-year experience as a transpersonal and transcultural psychiatrist and his knowledge of wisdom traditions (Western and Eastern) as well as mythology (in particular the Labors of Hercules) and parables from the gospels to guide the reader through John’s text, line by line. Volume One covers the first eleven chapters of Revelation and Volume Two presents chapters 12 to 22.
HCR helps move us, individually and collectively, to right action. The book carries an optimistic message. “Like the prodigal sons and daughters of God in the Bible, we recognize that we are destined to eternal life.” (p. 11)
One can read both volumes of HCR from cover to cover but it is also a training manual. The soul’s journey, as outlined in HCR, will take nine to twelve months if one is to study each chapter thoroughly and do the meditations. I thought the ten meditations on the Beatitudes were particularly beautiful (chapter 14, volume 2), but all meditations outlined in the text are beneficial. There are free MP3 recordings available on the associated website, as well as some tests, such as one about Enneagram types.
Many strands, many tools, is how I would describe this magnificent work of soul and spirit. Highly recommended for spiritual seekers everywhere.
Often I use the book as I would the Course of Miracles. If I am wondering about the meaning of some challenging situation, I can randomly open this book and invariably land upon a page that has words of wisdom to enhance my perspective. The book also contains meditations that expand my awareness and help me apply the meaning of God to everyday life.
