"I was immediately drawn to the cool, quiet tranquility of the woods. The details jumped off the page in deep green leaves and cold clear water. Then Lad and Ryann swept me right off my feet... I was glad that I started Hidden Deep on a Friday so that I could read straight through the night into the breaking hours of dawn. It ended way too quickly. I hope the continuation will be out soon. I will be making plans for another Friday night lost in the world of Lad and Ryann." - AJ- Bitten by Booksbittenbybooks.com/hidden-deep-by-amy-patrick/
"I love it when I fall deeper into the story as I move from one chapter to the next. That's what I got here. ... as a whole, this book is a delicious read. I actually went back to the first chapter immediately after finishing the epilogue which is HEART-STOPPING by the way. The cliffhanger left me with my mouth open and ready to reread the whole thing (which I kinda did). " Lyn Ching, Side B blog
"Hidden Deep is a young adult fantasy novel set in steamy rural Mississippi, and the steam spills over to the attraction between Lad and Ryann. The characters are great, and the unique setting comes to life on the pages of this engrossing read" Misti Pyles- Examiner.com

I really enjoyed this book. As a reader, a writer, and a mom, I find myself somewhat of an aficionado of fantasy fiction written for adolescents to adults. I've liked it all along, but as a parent of some very literate children, I found this book refreshing. Although there is a fair amount of internal discussion of the heroine's feelings of sexual attraction (and Love at First Sight), it's done very tastefully. I would let my 13-year-old daughter read it, and although the eight-year-old is capable of reading it, she'd be in over her head as far as content goes. Call it sixth grade and up.
The author writes well, and has a good editor (a better editor than I am of my own husband's books, for certain). She manages to hit all the right tropes without making the story stereotyped or trite, and I found the modern-day fantasy fiction with Fae Folk (rather than the glut - albeit often well-written - of dystopias, vampires, werewolves, and other Creatures of the Night) especially appealing. The characters are engaging and sympathetic, and if our heroine is a bit overwrought at times, well... she's a teenager in the flush of first love; it's an age-appropriate - and believable - response to the events going on around her. The love interest is believable too, especially in his more fish-out-of-water moments, as he is not familiar with the human world.
I already have the other three books in the series (and the novella) handy on my Kindle.I'll let you know!
A very pretty story, I spent a rather pleasant Saturday afternoon relaxing with this book. The storyline is sweet, if a bit predictable. Young love meets with adversity and hindrances..the usual. But Hidden had enough new elements to make it worth the read. I am going to buy the rest of the series, there is always another Saturday next weekend.
I'm not a typical YA reader, but I wanted to read this one. The author led me, led me, intrigued me, and never disappointed. A surprising and wonderful story with characters that touch your heart. This one is a slam-dunk great read.
So this popped up as a free story on my facebook page that 'you may like', most likely because I like other series like Hunger Games and Divergent. I figured I had nothing to lose because, well, FREE! So I put it in my kindle library and sat on it for about 5 months. A couple of weeks ago I was browsing my purchases for something new to read and thought 'why not?'. Well, its 2 weeks later and I'm about halfway through the whole series! Seriously addicting story!
So PROS: I like that the characters are not perfect people and make mistakes. But they are likeable and interesting. And you really get wrapped up in the love story. I enjoyed her writing style. You jump right into the story, it never drags.
A few CONS and the reason I did not give 5 stars: The story itself was at times predictable and there were times that I saw something coming a mile away. Also there were a few parts of the story that were not consistent and book 3 wrapped up too quickly for me, but hey, she wrote a fourth book so I'm happy.
Honestly this series is much better than I expected! I am going to re-read the first 3 books before I continue in this series because I enjoyed them so much I felt like I read them too fast and may have missed something.
These books were very entertaining. Several things that I had to just let go because it seemed so..."out there" but then it is a series about Elves secretly living among us. Strange sometimes how I can read about zombies, aliens, elves etc. without any qualms but then mind-control makes me roll my eyes ha! But I digress. These stories are very imaginative and fun and engaging. They were page turners for me and that's always an automatic 3 stars. The extra star is for some great characters and great world-building. The last 2 books of the series were actually my favorites but they were all fun reads. Thank you Ms. Patrick for sharing these stories
Any book that can make me feel just what the characters are supposed to be feeling is a treasure! I enjoyed the plot, which takes a supposedly human girl and thrusts her into a whole new and unbelievable world of the Elven. The dialogue flows naturally and the interplay between the main characters is sweet and charming. I loved it! I received a free copy but voluntarily reviewed.
This was an interesting book about young love, but with a unique paranormal twist. While geared more toward teens, I still found the story line quite engaging and it definitely held my interest. Romantic situations were written in a way that conveyed the passion WITHOUT any overly explicit descriptions (which is a sign of a good author, in my opinion). The author's descriptive writing style really brought the scenes alive for me, and I could easily picture the appearances of the characters and their surroundings. The ending had an unexpected twist, so I have bought the second book to see what happens next!
Such an incredible story! I really liked the dynamic between the two main characters, Ryann and Lad. And although their attraction and love to each other was instant, it had long been growing since they were very young, meeting only once but that was enough, and I liked that dynamic of the story. It was great learning more about Lad and seeing Ryann start to open up. It was so heart breaking at the end when Ryann had to make such hard decisions, but I was happy to see the end result for them was positive! Well, until the very end when we were all thrown that bombshell. And Nox, he better keep his hands to himself because Lad did NOT mean it in that way! Want to know what I am talking about, read the book! ;)
This is my first book of Amy Patrick's, but I can't wait to read more. I am hooked on this series and I am so excited to find out what is in store for our heroes next! I recommend this book and author.
