About the Author

Donna Galanti writes murder and mystery with a dash of steam as well as middle grade adventure fiction. She is an International Thriller Writers Debut Author of the paranormal suspense novel A Human Element, the short story collection The Dark Inside, and Joshua and The Lightning Road. She's lived from England as a child, to Hawaii as a U.S. Navy photographer. Donna dreamed of being a writer when she fell in love with the worlds of Narnia and Roald Dahl while attending school in a magical English castle where her dark imagination ran wild in an itchy uniform (bowler hat and tie included). She now lives in Pennsylvania with her family in an old farmhouse. It has lots of writing nooks, fireplaces, and stink bugs, but she's still wishing for a castle again—preferably with ghosts. Before I could read “A Hidden Element,” I had to reread “A Human Element” (book 1) as I couldn’t really remember the entire story, and I’m so glad I did. I loved it even more the second round as it’s an amazing story. I’m just sorry it took me so long to get to book 2, which picks up fifteen years from where we left off in book 1. Ben and Laura are loving and caring parents to fourteen year-old Charlie, with another one on the way. This is dark and violent story of good vs. evil, love vs. hate. In addition to the incredible story the author weaves, she gives her readers a cast of intriguing and complex characters that come alive I fell in love with Ben and Laura the first round, and fell in love with them again. Then there’s Caleb. My heart went out to him. Without a doubt, he stole the show. So engaged was I with these characters, my emotions were all over the map on this one. There were a few times I was left a blubbering mess. Yep, I cried. I cried big time. I dare you to not shed a tear.

As I highly recommend you read “A Hidden Element,” you have to start off with book 1, “A Human Element.” Otherwise a lot of what’s written will just go over your head, and you won’t be able to appreciate the overall story, or what Ben and Laura went through to be together. While this is of the science fiction genre, it’s equally a paranormal one. As for romance, it’s there but it’s not your typical romantic story of boy meets girl; they break up over a ridiculous angst; and get back together again, etc. I really can’t explain it without giving too much away. All I can is that when Ben and Laura do get together, the love they have for one another is fierce. Lastly, I warn you now that this novel is full of sexual situations, torture, and abuse. I guess now I just have to wait for the third and last installment, whenever that will be. Soon I hope.

Once again Author Donna Galanti delivers. In this second novel of her three part series the adventure continues. We are taken into a world of anger, hate and fear. But with all the negativity is a balance of love and hope. Laura and Ben are once again thrust into the alien world of the Elyon. The leader is Adrian. He is full of hatred and has no love for anyone or anything including his son, Caleb. His ultimate goal is to take over planet Earth and control humanity.
Thus starts this cleverly written novel. Laura and Ben are in a fight to save their 14 year old son, Charlie from the grasp of the evil Adrian. As we find out Charlie has the hidden element of being a destroyer. What is a destroyer? Well it's a person who destroys for the advantage of gaining power. As Charlie's family strives to find and rescue their son, other wars are raging between good and evil, in the minds, and hearts of everyone involved. Just like in our lives we have a choice so do the characters in this book. What will they choose? Revenge, hatred, lust, power and murder? Or will good prevail? You have to read this suspenseful novel to find out!! I am so looking forward to the next one!!

When we left Laura and Ben in A Human Element, we thought that they would have their HEA. In the follow up, A Hidden Element, we a thrust 15 years in the future. Laura and Ben had their baby. So life should be grand, right? Well, their son Charlie is not your typical 14 year old. He looks different then the other kids and he has powers that he tries to keep hidden. In Hidden Element, the enemy is someone connected to Laura and Charlie. Someone from Elyon.
I enjoyed reading about the continuing story of the characters. Charlie's character is one that most people can associate with. He feels that he doesn't fit in and is looking for a place to belong. I sure some of us have felt that way before.
I feel bad for Caleb's character. He wants to care for his father but feels that his father's motives are wrong. He loves his parent but hates what he is doing. I hope to see more of him in future books. He is a strong character with an interesting story.
I'm not a big fan of Suspenseful Paranormal, but Galanti has a way of pulling you in. I enjoy her books. They remind me of the Leech Series by james crawford.
When choosing to read this book, I recommend reading A Human Element first. To fully understand Charlie you need to know how Laura and Ben came to be.
Recommended read for those Paranormal lovers.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

A battle between good and evil, between love and hatred. You'll have to wait until the very end to figure out which side wins. Charlie and Caleb are characters you can cheer for and against. There are tender moments that make you want to cry. There are frightening moments that make you want to hide under the covers. This is a rip-roaring adventure full of vivid characters and settings. A wonderful follow-up to A Human Element.

3 and 1/2 Rating

Book two in this dark paranormal world picks up a few years after we first meet the power couple Ben and Laura. A Human Element (Book 1) does a great job of laying down the foundation of this trilogy. These books are not by any means for the faint of heart. They are dark and twisted, with intense sexual situations, torture and abuse. So be warned up front, if you can't handle this type of story.

While it's not my cup of Chai tea, I did get into the story. Donna casts a deeper look into her characters, with her colorful writing, and you get a broader view of both the good and bad characters. With an alien race that's able to control human minds, it really is true that with great power comes great responsibility! Oh the things you can abuse with mind control! Yikes!

With the alien leader now laser focused on Laura's teenage son, she's one hell bent momma out to protect her child from their clutches! I was right there with her. This one is intense and I can't stress that enough. I like a good nail bitter but I really had no clue if a happy ending was coming.

If you like the darker side of paranormal and a damn good mystery, then grab this one with both hands!
