I didn't know what to expect... The book far exceeded my expectations from the blurb, which is saying a lot as I read the blurb and started the book 5 minutes later ;)
We start with Samantha, in an unknown cabin with a strange guy drugging her. From the first page the mystery of who her captive was starts and you are kept guessing (about this and much more) till the very end of the book. This is something I much appreciate in a book as I am the sort of person who guesses correctly (most of the time) of what will happen in a book.
The story then takes us on a rollercoaster full of suspense, romance, mystery and the discovery of an interesting new species; part human, part dragonfly! This is not your average supernatural/fantasy book; where if you have read some you have read most of them. This book puts an interesting spin on our favorite fantasy creatures.
I won tell you about the other characters or more about the plot because that would mean depriving you of discovering it yourself, gradually, which was one of my favorite things about this book. I am much anticipating book 2 and I can't wait to see how Amanda continues the plot :) Happy reading everyone!!
It was AWESOME, EXHILARATING!!!!!!!!!!! I’m speechless. Wow! The whole story line sucked me in. Author kept me on edge and kept me guessing who ‘Hidden Monster’ was. With every step of further reading my guess kept switching to different characters.
The start was ordinary being abducted by a masked kidnapper but author Amanda Strong made the whole story extraordinary. I would have never guessed what it was about in millions of years. I should've learned not to expect what I’m going to read by reading the author’s other story, but now I know not to expect anything. She threw curveballs and captivated me with the whole suspense and mysteries.
I couldn’t stop wanting to read in one sitting late night until my mom scolded me. Next morning I couldn’t stop myself to start reading it first waking up.
It is definitely a must read. You are on one hell of a ride. I so so so want to read what will happen next in the story.
About the Author
Born in Dekalb, Illinois, Amanda Strong has called Utah, Arizona, Hawaii, Virginia and now New Mexico home. Amanda has been spinning tales since she was a child. Her family still remembers finding young Amanda with her bright pink glasses, hiding in random corners of the house while scribbling away in one of her many spiral-bound notebooks. You could say that some things never change since Amanda is still writing today. Amanda began her writing career when she uploaded The Awakener, her first full-length novel, on Wattpad where it received over 430,000 reads in four weeks. She was blown away and humbled by the reader support and feedback she received. Because of The Awakener's success as a non-published book, she was asked to talk on 1400 KSTAR about her story.

Trying to find herself again she starts to dream and then strange things begin to happen. Her dreams seem real. Just down the road a new family had moved in. But only one of them has caught Sam's eye, Blake. He touches her inner quarrel and soothes the storm within. Blake seems perfect; too perfect, and she knows that her feelings are getting stronger towards him. But can she trust him? And around every corner the question still follows, "Who is the monster?"
Going back to school has her on edge. It could be anyone. Getting reacquainted with her old friends; Jeremy, her jerk-of-a-jock ex-boyfriend, Jen, her center stage love-crazed friend, and Mack, her touchstone BFF. Sammy and Mack's friendship goes way back to elementary, just after her near drowning, he helped her deal with her fears and remained her friend.
Trust doesn't come easy, but Samantha is willing to place faith in her friends until tensions rise between her ex and Blake. Mack and Blake all of a sudden seem buddy-buddy. Jen is talking about someone from their past she is still head-over heels for. The dreams are now a part of her and terror begins to rip at her resolve. Pieces start to fall into to place, even if she has to smash a few of them to fit. Change isn't always a good thing. As answers become clear, there is only one that keeps alluding her. "Who is her Monster?"
Very well written. I tumbled down the rabbit hole with her. What a who-done-it ride. You did buckle-up, right?
Sammy/Samantha has experienced a nightmare: she's been kidnapped, tied-up and given injections for several weeks before finally escaping and being rescued. Luckily, she meets the new guy in town, who seems to be the cure for all the wounds she has to overcome. That is, until wings pop out of her back, and someone is watching her from the shadows.
The first chapter grabbed me right away. The setting is dark, the danger and tension clear, and Sammy's fighting spirit something to hope and cheer for. The emotional problems she deals with come across realistic even though they are moved over quickly as the rest of the plot gets underway. And there's a lot that rolls through in these pages.
Not only Sammy is pretty level-headed (except for a hiccup now and then), but the side- characters offer the perfect amount of support and a tad bit of humor. And this is very important considering the levels of unanswered questions and hidden agendas, which slowly are brought to light. It's not clear until the end exactly who the real 'evil' person is, and even then, it's not a clear cut black and white.
The romance is a little sudden, but as the plot unfolds--at least from the one side's point of view-- it becomes clear why. Still, it has a bit of the 'love at first sight' with head over heels emotions. Still, it's a fun romance to follow.
This is not a predictable plot, but holds many unexpected leaps, twists and turns. . .perhaps too much so. Toward the ending, a last twist hits. Although the ground was laid for it through out the book, it came across as a bit too much--as if too much was happening.
I did read it in one sitting and didn't want to put it down (which definitely qualifies it as a good read!). But with the last bit at the end, I'm not sure I'll be heading into book two or not.
