I love "hidden object" games, and I've played a lot of them on my touchscreen devices. I played "Where Ghosts Dwell" on my Kindle Fire HD. "Where Ghosts Dwell" is one of the few hidden object games that I would recommend for all ages from kindergarten to adult. Younger kids will love playing in the simplest mode - Nice and Casual - which is untimed, and they can match the hidden objects by their pictures; also there are no penalties for guessing wrong, and there are unlimited hints. Adults who want to raise the bar can play the High Score mode or Challenge mode, where a timer bar is running, hints are very limited (6 per game), and you get penalized for blindly stabbing away at the screen. They can also match objects by words or silhouettes, which are more difficult than matching pictures.

Finding the lists of hidden objects can be challenging, but it's not terribly difficult. Many of the hidden objects are relatively easy to spot, but there are always some that are either small, or they're partially hidden, or they're located near the edges. Also, some objects are camouflaged into the background, and these can be tough to find.

There's a little twist in "Where Ghosts Dwell," where ghosts sporadically appear for a few moments, then disappear. It doesn't affect gameplay, though, and it's a nice Halloween-y touch.

I played all three modes, but I preferred the Nice and Casual mode, with no time limit. In this mode, I completed all levels for the maximum score of 6,750. One caution if you play either of the timed modes: If the timer bar runs out, you have to return to the first screen and start over. If you need to take a break, press the Pause button first, and the timer will stop until you resume the game.

I really enjoyed this game, even more than Where Fairies Dwell, because it seemed as if many of the levels told their own story about their ghost(s). The ghostly figures that fade in and out of the scene connected to the objects around them (wearing a hat, holding ice cream) in ways that really fit the character of the ghost. The setting and even the objects around the ghost on each level provided an image that my imagination was happy to embroider into a full-fledged story as I played. (My favorite was the level with the young boy ghost, although the older man on the chair was also striking.)

I usually play in the find-by-word mode, which I found particularly challenging in this game. There were a few word choices that threw me (they felt somewhat British-y to me) but mostly it was the sheer variety of objects available. In some hidden object games you see the word once, learn the image that goes with that word, and then essentially search for the shape each time you see the word - which can be every other level if there aren't enough objects. Here, however, there were enough different objects and enough variations (for example, multiple images for the word 'cup') that I rarely saw many repeat words, and even when I did I had to pay careful attention.

I'll also mention that the music is lovely and fits well, and that the level-start sound scared me silly the first time I heard it. Also lovely, but very gothic somehow.

Overall, much recommended: a lot of levels, a rich gothic atmosphere, and a wide range of challenge to satisfy all kinds of players.

I love hidden object games, however this one is really lame. There is no story line, just scenes to find things. The program doesn't work in horizontal mode either.

I can not believe I paid 1.99 for this game. most of the objects are from previous games. these same objects are repeated in scene after scene. of course some of the objects are really spooky. nothing is spookier than a pineapple or chicken--right? some of the scenes look like someone is holdind a garage sale in a cemetery. I also did not like the background of some of the cemetery scenes. the back ground is sometimes distracting. I would score the game a zero if I could!

I downloaded this app on my Kindle fire and have really enjoyed it. It's amazing to me how you can look for a hidden item and all of the sudden you see it. It was right in front of your eyes the whole time.
