Praise for "The Hidden Power of Adobe Photoshop: Mastering Blend Modes and Adjustment Layers for Photography"

"This is a very complete, and very detailed book. I can truthfully say that I loved it, and like Scott's other two books I know I will continue to love it and will refer to it repeatedly.

There is no question that the books (all three of them, not just the new one) are aimed at intermediate to advanced Photoshop users. I think that is one of the reasons I love them, there are so many Photoshop books out there that are just 'click here, do this' type of books, whereas these, in my opinion delve more deeply, and give you a deeper understanding of how things work. For me, that is greatly helpful.

I purchased the book at Peachpit, and if you search there you will see that there is a downloadable PDF of sample content from the book. It is 66 pages and includes the entire table of contents, index and over forty pages of content. Checking this out may help guide your purchasing decision."

Update for 2022: I have migrated my domain, and due to various issues have updated some help files while removing others (please see scoxel(dot)com). If you have any requests for demonstration files, visit my site and use the social media buttons on the upper right to get in touch. I'm more than happy to help!
This is my third book taking a deep dive into Photoshop's tools, this time specifically for photography! You'll find some content from my previous two books mixed in with a ton of new information and examples. This edition is aimed squarely at photographers who want a broad set of skills to be ready for virtually any challenge.
While my previous titles went deep on specific tools, The Hidden Power of Photoshop for Photographers approaches techniques and provides context on how to adapt those techniques to new situations from problem solving to creative exploration. There is still a lot of technical information, but it's presented to support learning and understanding while you're working. My hope is to open up the "why" along with the "how" to embed core concepts with a concrete connection to the tasks at hand.
I really enjoy working with and writing about Photoshop because I love to participate in discovery. If you take delight in something new from my books, then my goal has been achieved!

Thanks for taking a moment to visit. I love exploring the tools and techniques we all use to express ourselves, especially with digital art. That means I spend quite a bit of time in various learning and sharing communities. One common theme I find is that people who want to create sometimes get frustrated with their tools, so I try to understand those frustrations and write about methods to get control over our tools. My approach is to present the tools in a way that makes it easy to see how they operate, where they succeed and where they fail, and how to think about them. Once you understand the nature of the tool, it becomes part of your own nature, and acts on your behalf as a creative extension.

Never let your tools get in the way of your art!

I'd enjoy keeping up with you as I share my explorations and experiments:
