“In this gripping sequel to Cut and Run…Burton delivers an irresistible, tension-filled plot with plenty of twists. The characters resonate with an intimate, small-town feel, and the tender romance between Macy and Mike complements the plot nicely. Lovers of romantic thrillers won’t be disappointed.” —Publishers Weekly

The plot revolves around Macy and Nevada hunting a killer who stalks, rapes, and then strangles his victims. As a woman this was often hard for me to stomach, and I don't think this book would be appropriate for anyone who has ever been violated. There are graphic details about the assaults of these young ladies too, most of whom were just teens at the time. But even though the subject matter wasn't ideal, I was still able to immerse myself in Burton's storytelling. There didn't seem to be a lot of surprises or twists and turns though and the handful I suppose were meant to be that way I usually had figured out. Even the killer didn't come as a surprise since I suspected it was one of two people. In the end I thought the book was slightly better than okay, but barely. Maybe my expectations were too high but for some reason I wasn't entirely satisfied.
Pages & Kindle Locations: The story itself contained 337 pages & ended at location 5046 on my kindle device.
I loved Macy’s character; she was strong, resilient, determined, kind-hearted and dedicated to her job. I really enjoyed her working with Sheriff Nevada and their interaction throughout the story. There were plenty of tense, suspenseful moments as well as action, some light-hearted moments, and romance. I liked how Macy and Nevada were able to compartmentalize their work and personal relationships, with neither overshadowing the main plot of the book. I also enjoyed Deputy Brooke Bennett’s character and think it would be awesome if she had her own book. It seems like there is more than meets the eye with her and she would have an interesting story to tell.
