As the story begins, we learn that Connor and Micah desperately love each other ... but how on earth do you tell your family, your friends, heck all of Lavender Shores, that the Bryant "brothers" are soul mates, and lovers, and dream of a life together? Rosalind Abel carefully crafts this nuanced relationship, full of doubt on Connor's part of depriving Micah of a life in the limelight as a violin virtuoso in NYC. Over the years they have each struggled with revealing everything, but when Connor's younger brother Moses comes into their lives, their plans are placed on the back burner once again.
I struggled with The Hideaway in the beginning because so much is unknown, but as Connor and Micah's story slowly unfolds, the pieces come together and the full emotional impact hits you hard. The pace of the story felt a bit slow in the middle and the built-up to the final revelation by Connor and Micah seemed to take a long time, but the ending beautifully tied everything together. I also loved how we get a brief story of Lavender Shore's past and I would dearly love to read a story focusing on Lavender Shore's creation after WWII.
4.5 stars and a Recommended Read for The Hideaway, and here's hoping there are more Lavender Shores books to come!
Rosalind Abel knows how to write a good book. She gives you all of the feels and writes incredible steamy scenes. This series is amazing. I want to put a plug in for the next book in the series, it has to be Seth! He needs his HEA. I would also settle for a book on Adrian too........just sayin'. We will want to hear more about the awakening of Moses too.
When I first realized that Micah and Connor were going to be the couple in The Hideaway, I wondered how in the hell the author was going to pull it off, make it believable, and not leave a squicky film behind for readers of the series who had thought of Micah and Connor as brothers. The answer? Extremely well.
This a beautiful story of deep, unwavering love. The conflict in this story is never whether they *should* be together, but whether they *can* be together, without losing everyone else they love. Their family, unaware of the romantic love and sex appeal, sees them as siblings. As does the rest of the world. Micah and Connor are unashamed of declaring it to one another, but hesitant to share it with the world. Connor, more than Micah, understands what is at stake.
Rosalind Abel weaves a tale of two men who are thrown together by familial ties, but instead of developing a close sibling relationship, Connor and Micah fall in love. It is heartwrenching and soul-quaking and nerve-wracking, reading through the progression in their relationship, as they navigate first the secrecy of a forbidden love, and then the pitfalls of telling everyone their truth. I wasn't sure the author was going to get us to a HEA that was both realistic and satisfactory.
I shouldn't have doubted. This is another gorgeous, well-written story in the Lavender Shores Series. If you haven't already enjoyed the rest of the books, you should do so, and end with this delicious tale.
It was so hard for Micah too. The push and pull of both of them made for a real and raw story.
Such a wonderful addition to the series. I hope one day we get to read more of Lavender Shores. Five Lavender Shores tattoos for this one! Loved it.
