If you are looking for information on how to use a foam roller, the internet has many sites with videos. Try bodyspex.com and youtube for starters. The videos offer helpful commentary about what should be accomplished during a particular exercise, how your body might/should feel, and mechanisms for altering an exercise to alleviate tenderness.
Again, if you are new to foam rolling, please give it a go. It may not cure all that ails you but it may be a good start to treating pain and tightness on your own Courtesy of Vergo .

I have owned foam rollers prior to this one. I love using a foam roller for myofascial massage/release throughout the entire body. However, I also use the foam roller as an aid to weight training: most frequently, I'll lie on the roller for exercises like chest presses and skull crushers.
When I received this Black High Density Foam Roller from Vergo, the first thing that I noticed was the high quality. The texture of the roller is smooth and even, with nicely rounded edges. I can easily imagine that this roller will maintain its shape over time, whereas other rollers I have owned have tended to develop soft spots.
Other than the quality, this roller is called "high density" for good reason--it is VERY firm. In addition to foam rolling, I use various other products for self-massage--e.g., therapy balls, the Acu-Masseur--and I do tend to prefer quite firm pressure. However, even for me, this roller was a bit close to being TOO firm. I tried it with the 15-minute massage routine included on the video The Fitness Fix Intermediate DVD, and I had to be VERY minimal in applying pressure at times.
In summary, I would recommend this roller to those who are experienced in using a foam roller and who are comfortable with handling a significant amount of pressure. I would not suggest this roller for beginners, as the firmness might be too uncomfortable for those new to foam rolling.
