Some of these themes are VERY old. "The High and the Mighty" was a movie from the 1950s. And the others are all scattered across time since then. And all of them have in common the theme of man in the Air. The dream of thousands of years, now a commodity of money and time. The theme of the movie reminds us of the time when Flight in an DC 4 was an adventure, when you didn't have overhead baggage, and "Smoke em if you got em".
From there, we float and flow through themes famous (ET? Who can be alive and not know that?) to more obscure (The boy who could Fly). And through it all we soar above the present, upheld on the wings of our imagination, by a very well done orchestra and recording.
I would have included John Barry's theme "High Road to China" with this collection, but that is a VERY Small criticism. This was a very worthwhile find for listening while I am driving to or from the airport, remembering when being "In the air" was an adventure.
