As a person who reads quite a bit, I have become a tad desensitized lately with the New Adult/contemporary romance field. I think that it is difficult not to be when you read as much as much as I do. I am so happy to report that High Risk Love has delivered something I so rarely find these days: a story that sucks me in and keeps me invested in the characters. High Risk Love is the story of two people who have suffered their own share of grief, loss, guilt, and pain. Jet and Jasmin both feel like the best chance at survival is to remain closed off from real relationships. Too much pain and sadness (in multiple forms) has created walls around their hearts because each feels like one more loss would shatter them beyond repair.
Jasmin has suffered in a way many of us can relate, but at to a degree that is a lot more uncommon. She becomes totally justifiable in her grief, because at some level you, as the reader, can understand her pain. She is trying to make it financially and takes a job as a photographer for an extreme stunts/stuntmen magazine. Enter Jet. A man who's anguish may not be as readily understandable by us, but the horrors of which are so prevalent that I'm pretty sure I threw up a little in my mouth when reliving them with him.Read more ›
OMFG!!! Those were the few words that came out of my mouth after reading HRL!
I cried, I laughed, I swooned for Jet ( and yeah Hugh & Jasper ), I loved every single line, paragraph and scene of this book.
I wasn't even in the first 5% of the book and Shannon already made me cry my eyes out, I was sniffing and cursing like a sailor.
Ugh I hate fate sometimes!
But I won't talk about the bad things that happened :P What did you think?! That I was going to save you the misery I went trough while reading those first lines? Yeah right! Suck it like I did I'm sure you'll love it in the end
Now for the happy thoughts
Oh boy, Jet ( OMG I just sighed while writing the review, this is pathetic, I need to get a grip on things! ) you're so yummy! I just want to wrap you up, no no correction, I want to wrap myself around you and never let you go I'm taking the pathetic to a new level, but what can I say I LOVED HIM!
He's so playful, so funny, not to mention HOT LIKE HELL, and completely unpredictable! I read this during the night, and I had to control myself not to giggle and wake everyone in my house. Man is HILARIOUS!
And he and Hugh together? SWOON ALERT!
Now for Miss Spitfire Yeah she deserved the title of the review, that doesn't happen often ( honestly that only happened so far for bad reasons ), but in this case, I HAVE A LADY CRUSH!
You all know, I hate the typical female character that went through some bad crap, and turned insecure and just dumb!Read more ›

This book is truly a wonderful read and I was inspired. The part where the main character, Jasmin, struggled to keep her feelings for Jet at bay struck me the most. I know the feeling of having doubts whether your feelings for the opposite sex is reciprocated or not, especially when that someone is afraid to love due to his past. Imagine how teary-eyed I got when Jasmine was clinging to her life when everyone else had left her (her parents & brother). I almost burst into tears when she saw Ryan on her deathbed. It was quite an emotional scene.
The first part of the book also made me grit my teeth. Jet, as a little boy received a lot of blows and insults from his own father. I swear, I wanted to clutch his father's throat because of that. He was so evil. The thing was, Jet couldn't do anything because he thought he was protecting his brother Jasper. But boy, was he so wrong about his thoughts.
This book opened my eyes to the reality of the world. It also made me realize that fate, trust and compassion in the family can conquer any trials. I highly recommend this book to everyone who either have issues with their family or significant others, or to those who just wanted to get a feel of how it is like to read a Shannon Mayer masterpiece. Two thumbs up!
