When I got this backpack I LOVED it! It's cool looking, has suspension things on the straps to lessen the loads of college, nicely padded, and has tons of room! So what's not to like? Two MAJOR things.

One-
It's extremely difficult to zip/unzip. For whatever reason there's just too much material too close to EVERY zipper! You can still zip/unzip but it's unnecessarily difficult to do since they get caught every inch or so every single freaking time! You'd think that would be something such an "advanced" backpack wouldn't have a problem with but it certainly does and it sucks. Very annoying to be reminded of the zippers' suckiness every time I have to zip/unzip.

Two-
The reinforcement material used to hold the backpack together better is a little over-kill. This backpack WILL eventually ruin the backs of all your shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, etc because the edges of the reinforcing material juts out too far and constantly rubs against your back. Again, not something you should have to deal with every single day, every single class. C'mon Sierra!! You're so close to having the best backpack around! Until these problems are addressed, I'd stay away.

This is the 2nd High Sierra back pack that was purchased in our home in 4 months. Upon a recommendation from his younger sister my older child, an 11th grade boy bought the exact same bag. He is not real particular about the color, the number of pockets or the style. The most important thing we looked for was durability and the large space for many books and binders.

Everything works with this bag. I picked 4 other bags at retail stores, some more expensive, some less and one brand name that he didn't want to wear but he wasn't happy with any of those choices.

This is a perfect bag.

I have had this backpack for at least a couple of years now and I am pretty careless about it (throwing it around when I get home, etc.). It has been in the rain (not snow though). For it to of held up this long is miraculous. The straps are a little wider than what I am used to but they are supportive. I feel like now that I have experienced a backpack with so many compartments I will no longer be able to go back to using a simpler backpack. Also the laptop compartment has some cushioning is is big enough to hold my extremely large laptop (I think it is around 17 inches or 15 inches)

I was a bit apprehensive when I selected the color(charcoal blue) since it didnt give the bag a fresh, new brand look. I got my bag withing a week and when I saw it, it was not at all disappointing. Overall, I like the bag very much. Too comfortable to carry al sorts of things that u need. My only concern(and a trivial one) is that my laptop has to be pushed in it with a little force. It would have been better if the laptop compartment would be a bit larger. But overall..the bag is too good. An indeed very good product to have!!

working from the compartments next to the straps to the front.
this is a well designed backpack. I'm an IT tech. I carry a 17" laptop. the compartment made to hold the laptops is excellent. it holds the laptop in place and i'm able to stuff more items without the laptop sliding to the middle and taking valuable space. Also the zipper to retrieve/insert it is an excellent idea.

on the main compartment i carry screwdrivers, pliers a metal water bottle and glassware about 4 inches high by 8.5x8x5 (food container). I can also store a light jacket/sweatshirt inside. woohoo.

there's a small comp, on it i store my plastic glass cases. easy in/out

the 2nd comp: i carry 15"-25" spools of cat-5, a 10 CD pouch, laptop power chord, more screwdrivers, vga cables, usb cables, portable hdd, and only half of space taken

3rd comp: pencils, pens, markers, papers,

4th comp: small flashlights, usb drives, more pens, hand sanitizer, portable stain remover, coins, and who knows what else.

in all, i can fit a lot of stuff and the backpack holds well. I'm glad i bought it!

I’m a virgo, I can be quite an.. PICKY! If you don’t know any virgo’s, pity, we know the best short cuts, the best products that we use, etc. I’m almost 60, my backpack is my purse, my traveling companion. It must have pockets and zippers for all my stuff. Being a virgo, I’m organized!
I don’t carry a laptop but that section/divider whatever works perfectly to hold papers, files, folders straight and not crumpled. There are plenty of areas to organize! I’ve had this pack for well over 6 months, it gets thrown over my shoulder every day 5 days a week and then thrown in the car. Not a single loose thread that I’ve seen. I use the zippers daily, no problems. The right shoulder strap is comfy. Great buy and especially for the price!

Looks good, strong. Smart internal volumes. All zips - ok.
A slightly more than Ed.Bauer Cargo Pack ( I've bought one together with HS Swerve pack).

Attention!
No earphones port (rubber cross hole) at my bagpack!
I don't know what is it - mistake or a new modification. But in any case it's not critical for me.

Total: good unexpensive thing for city and outdoor purposes.
