Out of curiosity, because one reviewer measured the flow and found that it's not as low as the most efficient heads, I decided to measure it. He's right: it's a tiny bit more than 1.5GPM (1.6, by my calculation), but considering the very nice feel, nothing to stop you from using it if you're looking for efficiency.
That said, I think that the preference between this and the $10 1.5GPM head is very much subjective. So you might want to base your decision on price, since the difference in feel, while clearly noticeable, is minor (in my opinion).
An outstanding design feature is that, unlike other low-flow heads, this one doesn't depend on tiny openings to restrict the flow. Tiny openings can eventually become clogged with mineral deposits in the water, but that should never happen with this product.
If that's not enough, I find the shower head sleek and attractive, and I'm happy to buy a product that's actually made in the USA instead of China.
The only hitch is that installation was more involved than the procedure shown on the video on the High Sierra web site. That's the fault not of the shower head, but of the antiquated plumbing in my house. I have what's called a "ball end shower arm," probably from the 1950s. To attach a modern shower head, you have to either replace the shower arm or use an adapter. I chose the easy way and used an adapter. (There are three different versions of the adapters -- Price Pfister, Gerber, and American Standard. You have to choose the one with the right threading.) With a couple of lengths of Teflon tape, I attached the adapter to the ball end, and the shower head to the adapter; I hand-tightened both connections, and the shower works perfectly, with no leaks. In fact, the shower head design is so simple that there's no dripping for a short period after you turn off the water; the water flow stops immediately.
Incidentally, I measured a flow rate of 1.64 gpm, plus or minus 0.03. That's 9% higher than the nominal value of 1.5 gpm, but it's still very low flow, so it doesn't bother me. The "answered questions" section has more reports of measured flow rate.
The High Sierra web site mentions that if the shower head is high above your head, you may find the spray pattern unsatisfactory, and should instead consider two other products from this manufacturer:
1) A similar shower head with a flow of 1.8 gpm instead of 1.5.
2) The "Tenaya X" model, which has a swiveling extension arm that allows you to adjust the height of the shower head.
