Originally published in 1980, High Treason remains one of the touchstone texts for many who are unconvinced that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy. "Too many people have too much at stake to allow the truth to come out," cautions Livingstone, "even though it has been squeezed out drop by drop over the years. The cover-up is kept in place to this day by those with interests that are threatened by the truth of a political assassination."
Among the provocative conclusions that Livingstone reached, and which he expands in this revised edition, is that "all of the evidence, including the famous Zapruder film, was fake," deliberately altered to conceal direct proof of multiple gunmen. He enlists several people, including eyewitnesses to the autopsy, to go on record in order to support this allegation, and also documents the "strange deaths" of numerous people who he believes are related one way or another to the cover-up. Although there are some occasional lurid turns of phrase, High Treason is for the most part one of the calmer, more levelheaded examinations of JFK's death.

Tons of oddities, intersecting incidents and characters and motives (or coincidences perhaps?), startling revelations... and some outright, implausible over-reaching. But a great introduction to the world of JFK conspiracy literature. Probably a better intro would be Jesse Ventura's eminently enjoyable, fast-paced, easy book "They Killed Our President." Roger Stone's is good too ("The Man Who Killed Kennedy.").
I read this around 1991, and I credit it with opening my eyes to the fact that our own government is a dishonest, venal, rapacious, self-serving, crime-syndicate. I would also credit it with putting me on the path toward libertarianism, because immediately after I started reading books on government waste and corruption (Martin Gross's "A Call to Revolution") and then books on local government tyranny (James Bovard's "Lost Rights," and then free-market economics (Henry Hazlitt's "Economics in One Lesson") and political-economics (Frederic Bastiat's "The Law") and then US Constitutional history ("Grassroots Tyranny" by Clint Bolick, and "Who Killed the Constitution?" by Thomas E. Woods....and then Murray Rothbard, and Ludwig von Mises, and Robert Higgs...and so on and so on....and I'm still at it today.
Robert J. Groden is an expert on photography, Harrison Edward Livingstone is a writer. This 562 page paperback has a 'Bibliography' (with recommendations), 'Sources and Notes', and a `Subject Index'. The 'Acknowledgments' mention the other books on the JFK murder. [No mention of Mark Lane who was the first to question the Lone Gunman theory.] The 'Introduction' summarizes this book. Chapter 1 summarizes the events. The Parkland doctors said there was a large hole in the back of the head (Chapter 2). This implies a shot from the front. Or were there two shooters, one in front and one in back (p.37)? Chapter 3 explains why JFK and Connally were hit by separately fired bullets. JFK's throat showed an entrance wound. The X-rays of both the neck and the head are fake (Chapter 4). The Warren Commission did not see the complete set of autopsy pictures (Chapter 5). The Dallas doctors said a bullet came from the front (p.88). The Warren Commission ignored the medical evidence (p.104).
The House Committee originally sought to prove the Warren Report until they were forced to admit the validity of the acoustical evidence (Chapter 7). De Mohrenschildt's widow does not believe he committed suicide (p.130). Witnesses were killed off (pp.135-136). Some were "suicides" like Dorothy Kilgallen (p.138). No one ever found Oswald's box of bullets for his rifle (p.166). Those backyard photos of Oswald with a rifle were fakes (p.200). The Zapruder film has missing frames (pp.216-218). A tree blocked the view from that sixth floor window for the first two shots (p.221). "Nobody has been able to put him in that building with a gun in his hand" (p.237). Chapter 12 covers the new acoustical evidence that established the high probability that two gunmen fired at JFK. The six noises could have been caused by gunfire (p.242). This acoustical evidence has not been refuted (p.247). JFK was first shot from the front (p.263). Connally was hit by a separate bullet from behind. The Warren Commission was part of the cover-up. These pages summarize the mistakes and problems.
Were JFK's political enemies the servants of Big Oil (p.281)? There were connections between Nixon and organized crime (p.293). Chapter 15 covers the events from Dallas to Watergate and the people who were involved or connected in some way. H.R. Haldeman said that Nixon's references to "the Bay of Pigs" was a code word for the JFK assassination (p.333). In 1976 Congress created a special committee to investigate the assassination of JFK (Chapter 16). The recorded audio evidence proved a second gunman, this corroborated the scientific and eye-witness testimony(p.389). Chapter 19 tells about a Secret Team that really runs the country (p.404). Their policies looted the nation's treasury, damaged the economy, and turned America into a debtor nation (p.405). The Vietnam War consumed billions to benefit the military-industrial complex. A conspiracy was kept hidden by eliminating the middlemen and other witnesses (p.407). The acceptance of the Warren Report by the media shows how the news is manipulated (p.409). A list of JFK's enemies is on pages 415 to 416. Nixon was impeached because he extorted millions from big corporations (p.419). The assassination was followed by the war in Vietnam (p.423). Eisenhower had ended "major operations in Tibet, Laos, and Indochina" (p.426). The lesson learned from the Bay of Pigs was to put the JCS in charge of military-type operations in peacetime (NSAM #55). NSAM #57 reined in the CIA's operations. Half of the HEW budget was concealed CIA funds (p.435). JFK was killed because he "tried to stop the war in Vietnam" (p.494).
The 'Afterword' tells that the body of JFK did not arrive at Bethesda in the same condition as when it left Dallas (p.447). Are those photographs and X-rays forgeries (p.453)? The difference in head wounds can be explained by a double (p.455). 'Appendix A' has Fletcher Prouty's article "Kennedy and the Vietnam commitment". 'Appendix B' provides the strongest documented evidence of a Right Wing plot.
The book " High Treason" 's one of the most successful and important books which refutes the claims of the HSCA. It persuades us to believe that the JFK assassination was the result of a government conspiracy. It is also an introduction book for those who do not know about the assassination.
Mainly, the book book consists of seven parts and their sub-chapters. In parts 1,2,3 and 4, the writers deal with the concrete evidences; in other words, corpus delicti to show the cover-up, LHO-chapters. In parts 1,2,3, and 4 the writers deal with the concrete evidences; in other words corpus delicti to show the conspiracy, cover-up (dead witnesses, witnesses bullying and changed testimonies)LHO's being set up as a patsy, evidence tampering and that how JFK’ protection was stripped off. Especially, in sub-chapter 2, we are going to learn that the alleged autopsy pictures and x-rays had not been shown to the Parkland doctors and nurses until 1979. Co-author Livingstone made the first refutation and uncovering against conspirators by showing them. He also uncovered that the neck wound was an entry one. Also in these parts, by binding the facts and documents, co-authors refuted the other myths invented one by one such as the single-bullet theory, LHO’s backyard photos, lone-nut assassin theory.
In parts 5,6 and 7, we are going to encounter the political dimension of the assassination, the events during the life of the HSCA and why JFK was killed.
When we focus on these parts, we are going to learn that first the assassination was planned sophisticatedly, in terms of planning, carrying-out and JFK was surrounded by the enemies and traitors(George Smather for example) . Secondly, JFK’ idealistic approach made the secret team be in panic. Also we learn that the Bay of the Pigs event was planned to be a fiasco from the beginning by the CIA in order to destroy his reputation and prestige.
While I was reading, an event during the life of the HSCA written in the book recalled my learning from the book by Sherry Fiester. It was the congress people and staffers belief about the direction of the front shot, after they had watched the Zapruder film. According to them, it came from the Tripple Underpass rather than the Grassy Knoll.(Mrs.Fiester also says the Grassy Knoll shot is somehow myth)
As a result, the book educates both American and non-American people in terms of showing the symptoms of the assassination as a result of a big-scaled conspiracy, and gives us a democracy lesson
