I purchased all three books in the series and although the books could do with proof reading and spelling corrections, I found that there was a certain amount of credit due to the imagination of the author. It would be classed as light reading, more for a juvenile class of reader yet the ideas were good, the story line wasn't so bad and I have to admit that I did enjoy them. A bit repetitive in parts but with proper editing, these books could have been better presented. It's unfair to be critical to the point of condemnation of a writer's attempts and a certain amount of praise is essential for the author's efforts because everyone has to start somewhere. Practice makes perfect and for a first attempt, it was a good attempt. Enjoyable light reading, and I hope that R.A.Scully will continue to write because he/she HAS got imagination and that is what is essentially, the basis for a good book!

I actually like the book. Yes it is derivative and very poorly written and not proofread at all--"he sounds horse" is just a modest example. And why everything is narrated in the present tense is a mystery I'll never be able to solve. Yet the story itself is actually good. Yes, it is derivative; yes, the intrepid band is composed of all races including a female elf--by the way is "elvin" correct? I would think "elven" or "elvish"--oh well. And, as others have noted, there is much repetition. Have I mentioned that there is much repetition? :)

Why then have I not consigned this book to the trash heap of literary history? Well, as I mentioned above, the story is pretty good. So much so that I have already purchased the next two volumes. My reasoning is that for 99 cents I can put up with the juvenile style, misspellings, clumsy expressions and anachronisms like "okay" which really does not roll easily off the tongue of a High Wizard.

My rating for style would be one star and for story 3 stars. Thus my composite rating of 2 stars.

This is not a book. It reads like a 10 year old's first attempting to write in third person. Every sentence short and has the persons name in it. There is almost no description of things and when there is it is repeated over and over. I paid for this book and am very disappointed. I love that Amazon puts by our reviews that we purchased the item we are reviewing. I think now with rip offs like this that we need to add info of the legitimacy of the publisher. You've been warned.

I finished the first book, but I have no desire to read any of this author's other attempts at a novel. The basic grammar errors made the novel difficult to read, and the author constantly changed verb tense in the midst of sentences. Also, the characters are not well-developed and slightly childish in nature. 50-year-old Alentia acts like a 12-year-old girl, and the majority of the characters are unbelievable. I would not have spent 99 cents on this book if I had known how badly it was written.

I found myself wondering if I had somehow purchased the wrong book after reading the reviews for this book. Almost every paragraph reiterates something from the previous paragraph. I found myself thinking "you already told me that" non-stop. The same description is tagged to a character or item repeatedly in the same paragraph and again in the next, and the next. At first I thought maybe it was just to make the story longer, but no.
The wizard is old, next sentence, the wizard is old. The light is dim, next paragraph, the light is dim. Every book has explainations that are repeated or descriptions that reappear here and there. I just couldn't put the poor writing aside long enough to get interestest in the story. It's not as if I didn't give it a chance. I made it to location 1096 of 8913 before my eye rolling gave me a head ache and I deleted it from my Kindle.
Take a pass on this one, not worth your time even if you like the genre, as I do.
