A pair of these JBL MS-52C were installed in the rear deck of a Grand Marquis with 1/4" inch baffles made from MDF. At present they are being run off the head unit(Dual) without an amp, which is pushing about 17 wpc rms and as such are under powered. I have a four channel amp waiting for install but I became impatient to hear the speakers so did a quicky to the Dual to check them out. At first listen, I felt that twinge of buyer's remorse. Weak bass, worse than with the stock speakers and an all around poor sound were surprising. I figured I would let them break in for a few hours before I made another judgement, or put it off until I get the amp installed. Fearing a harsh metal tweeter, I had set the three position crossover to -3db for the tweet. After the first listen, I put the jumper back to 0db since the tweeters were off axis and repositioned them, held with a sticky pad, to angle more forward(the included driver mount gives you a few options). The top end improved considerably. Still, the overall nebulous sound and weak bass made me think a phase issue was the problem and as it turned out a reversal of the left speaker leads proved that was the case. So with that out of the way, and with about ten hours of listening, my conclusion is that these speakers are high value. Very smooth through the top they do a good job of providing detail and separation. I own both Grado and Denon headphones and these MS-52cs sound more like the Denons - a tendancy to draw you in rather than project out, with the exception of the low mids. The midrange sounds slightly withdrawn toward the upper end, but peaky toward the bottom, which can give a bloated sound in some male vocals.Read more ›

I admit I bought these almost impulsively due to so many great reviews I found. Well this time reviews didn't work, I really dislike these speakers. The first thing I noticed is that they have terribly low sensitivity, they are far more quiet than any other set I've tried, and the Focal's I have in the rear completely dominate these in loudness. But even with that issue compensated for, they are just missing so much, the tweeter is fine, but the midrange seems useless.. I'm switching my fronts to Focal.

I have owned jl audio, zapco, arc audio, adc, kicker, and others. These by far are the best of them all. Pricewise these cant be beat. Very smooth "adult" sounding components. I am sold on all JBL products
