Golden Globe and Grammy nominated composer Clint Mansell's brooding, edgy and beautifully unsettled orchestral score to Ben Wheatley's eagerly awaited film adaptation of J.G Ballard's High-Rise. Described by Hollywood Reporter as "a lustrous retro-classical score bursting with ironic good cheer", Clint Mansell's music has a meaty, steadfast presence throughout the visual spectacular of the savage societal breakdown. Former Pop Will Eat Itself frontman turned soundtrack composer, Clint Mansell is best known for his work with long time collaborator Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, The Fountain, Noah). He also scored Duncan Jones' Directorial debut Moon, and He has also lent to his talent to films as diverse as Filth, Faster, and Last Night. Starring Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans, Elisabeth Moss, High-Rise is a visionary tale of human society slipping into extreme violence. The once-peaceful residents of a desirable apartment block quickly spiral into a world ruled by primal urges in which elevators become vicious battlegrounds and cocktail parties degenerate into brutal raids on "enemy" floors. The film received it's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2015, it's European premiere at the 63rd San Sebastián Film Festival and is scheduled for release in the United Kingdom on 18 March 2016 through StudioCanal.

Clint Mansell fails to disappoint again. I've never seen the film, not sure I've even heard of it before. But I found his name on this soundtrack, picked it up and I'm liking it.
Great but no sos. Thick atmosphere walls of moody droids rising up bloody elevator's into retro cinema clouds only to fall off balconies of past composer's shoulder's .

The soundtrack to "High-Rise" is great! This is another great soundtrack / score from Clint Mansell. It is well-done, well-crafted and entertaining. All (12) tracks on here are great.

Goodness me. This music is astonishing. Yes it's a soundtrack to a movie, but it works beautifully as a standalone record. Lush strings at times, intermingling with mood pieces, it's one of Mansell's best yet. Forgetting the music, it's a real journey from start to finish, and is a real classic.
I have both the CD and the Vinyl. The Vinyl benefits from the enlarged artwork, as you'd expect. Sound wise though, I prefer the CD, which has slightly more "grain" to those lush strings. But either one will serve you well. A real highlight. Mansell is just amazing.
Lacks the Portishead Cover of SOS, pity, this is a reason i bought the album, i should have took more notice of the listing. i am sure many people will enjoy this album, but it not something i will listen to regularly, although it is high quality
Degna colonna sonora di uno splendido film, che purtroppo in Italia è ancora inedito anche se dal 18 luglio 2016 sono disponibili dvd e blu-ray della versione inglese. L’edizione del cd, in digipack, è molto curata. Il booklet presenta immagini del grattacielo al centro della trama del film, accompagnate da frasi significative del romanzo di J. G. Ballard, “High Rise” da cui il film è stato tratto. Inoltre, il booklet contiene il commento del regista Ben Wheatley e del compositore Clint Mansell, di grande interesse per comprendere la genesi della colonna sonora.
I 12 brani sono molto eterei e suggestivi e accompagnano in maniera superlativa i vari momenti del film, da quelli iniziali in cui la vita nel grattacielo scorre ancora secondo ritmi canonici (prevalenza del suono vivace degli archi) a quelli in cui si manifesta la crisi (ritmo più teso ed ipnotico) fino all’epilogo da cui sembra emergere un nuovo ordine.
I brani meritano tutti, ma ho trovato particolarmente emozionanti “Critical Mass”, “Silent Corridors” e “Blood Garden”, l’apoteosi finale. Unico neo di questo cd è la mancanza di “SOS”, nota canzone degli svedesi ABBA, che nel film è stata riproposta nella versione cover realizzata dalla band inglese Portishead.
In ogni caso, un cd assolutamente da non perdere per rivivere le suggestioni di un grande film.
