Editorial Reviews

Neshama Carlebach is a superstar in the Jewish Music World. Her self-released records have sold over 200,000 copies. She is the daughter of Shlomo Carlebach, often referred to as Father of Modern Jewish Music. Neshama has built a loyal community of fans over the past 15 years in which she routinely plays 100 dates per year. With this, her debut for Sojourn Records, Neshama is poised to expand upon her fan base. The new record, produced by Mark Ambrosino (Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder), combines Neshama's unique brand of Jewish soul with the Gospel talents of the Green Pastures Baptist Choir from The Bronx NY. The result is a record that is perfect for the times. One that embraces spirituality and values, without being tied to any particular denomination. It is a record of hope. It will appeal to her legion of devoted fans and gain her a diverse new audience.

Being an ardent fan of World Music and also familiar with the vast writings of Rebbi Shlomo Carlbach (of blessed memory), I was delighted to discover this album by Neshama Carlach. She takes just a few of her father's songs, with reverence and love, and intertwines them with the style and power of a black baptist choir. The result is uplifting and soul healing. I have listened to the cd over and over, especially while I am driving. There is such obvious celebration in this album. That cannot be disputed. Buy it for yourself and get one for a friend who might need a spiritual kick in the pants (from a human point of view).

One of my favorite CD's. Son of singer/cantor Shlomo Carleback, she didn't inherit his annoying (to me anyway!) nasal tone, and with a Dallas gospel choir as backup, this is an utter delight of modern day "spirituals."
