Picked this up at the start of the hoarding since I didn't want to fight the crowds at costco, and I refuse to eat that Aunt Jemima corn syrup crap. It was a little more expensive than the big box store, but not that much. The flavor is great - exactly what you'd expect from N.E. maple. Now I can use up that old bag of whole wheat flour by making pancakes and use this stuff to hid the terrible flavor of the whole wheat!
I prefer Vermont maple syrup. I'm sure in a blind taste test I may not be able to separate the Vermont from the Wisconsin from the Canadian, but I will buy Vermont syrup until they run out of syrup. :-)
Of course they went and changed up the grades and the colors on us in the last few years or so. The Grade A Dark Color used to be Grade B and they'd market it more toward cooking. I just like the stronger flavor. If you're going to use MAPLE syrup, shouldn't it be maple-y?
This is a good syrup. Not too thick not too thin. It's a giant bottle so it'll last you a while. Saute up some carrots and pour a little of this in - it's delicious!
We really love Highland Sugarworks maple syrup. The flavor is wonderful and the quality is top notch. The jug is easy to carry and the quart size goes a long way. It's perfect for pancakes, of course, because the flavor is rich and authentic. We also use it as a sweetener in recipes such as baked beans that need just a touch of sweetener. A little goes a long way.
This is a dark somewhat thick maple syrup with a definite maple flavor. It has a lot of foam, which makes me wonder what was used as a de-foaming agent and how much of that agent was used. The price and ratings sold me on this, but I probably won’t buy it again and instead will go back to single-sourced maple syrup producers.
I have the glass bottle retail item from Highland Sugarworks and side-by-side comparisons show that there is something lacking with this plastic jug release. The glass bottle releases are much more robust, dark and satisfying. The plastic jug item sold here lacks good maple flavor and the viscosity is thinner. I would not recommend buying this item again, rather I would look elsewhere for that epic maple syrup taste that you are craving. The price for this item is a good deal which may be why it lacks the quality of the glass retail item. It almost seems as if they used the poorer batches for release in plastic jugs at a lower price point. Normally, a premium maple syrup should be up to twice as much as the cost of this. You really do get what you pay for, although once in a while you might find a diamond in the rough.
Friggin love this stuff! It's a ritual now that every time I get it that I opened it in the UPS box and stick my finger down the jug to taste it. So yummy lol Great on pancakes/French toast/waffles and in hot cereal. Kind of expensive but in my opinion totally worth it. I mean, I don't know how I went 30 some years using Mrs. Butterworth and other high fructose corn syrup with caramel coloring. Ugh! I've been stuck on the real stuff for the past five years and cut my imagine going back if only I could get my kids to make the switch Ha-ha!
I've been buying this brand from Amazon for a while now and myself and my daughter absolutely love it. Great flavor, nice dark color. The price is about half of what I was paying for similar syrup from Walmart. They could probably do a better job with the pour spout but that's usually only a little messy when it's completely full. If you like Maple Syrup but hate paying an arm and leg for it, then I highly recommend this quality product. Hope this was helpful!
