After the death of her uncle, English Lady Isabelle Tynsdale is on the run from her cruel husband. Isabelle knows that her husband will kill her if he finds her, just to claim her inheritance, her Uncle's estate. While on the run from her husband's men, Isabelle gets lost by herself. She winds up all alone and disheveled and the only help around is a brute of a highlander. The highlander turns out to be the Laird David Campbell who helps Isabelle without knowing her identity. Isabelle is afraid that if her identity is discovered, she will be sent back to her husband. As David and Isabelle travel together, they develop an attraction for each other, but both know that because of Isabelle's husband and David's marital obligations they could never be a couple. However, neither know the truth about Isabelle's husband.
The Highlander's Heart is an engaging read, and I really loved this book. There is plenty of action and adventure. Isabelle may be an English Lady, but she has spunk. She is constantly trying to escape, she has a penchant for getting herself into trouble, and David Campbell has to continually rescue her. Don't get me wrong here, while Isabelle is in trouble a lot, she is not at all annoying or whiny. She is highly entertaining, a heroine to love. David is a strong warrior and leader, he puts value in his word and his family. He has a very large family, many bothers and sisters, so the last thing he really needed was to be responsible for a lost woman. He proves again and again that he is a very good man by continually putting up with Isabelle's antics.Read more ›
The heroine, Isabelle, is the perfect balance of strong and vulnerable. Knowing she faces certain death, she relies on her wit and instinct to survive. Nothing in her world is black and white, and there is no one she can trust. Every moment reveals more about her past, which is dark to say the least. Likewise, the hero, David, is confronted with his own conflicts. Destined to lead his clan, he has no other option but to see to the welfare of his people. His loyalty is unwavering. However, he can't resist the alluring beauty that stumbles across his path. Although Isabelle is a woman he can't have, he fanaticizes of what might have been if circumstances were different.
The obstacles standing between Isabelle and David, while enormous, only bring the star-crossed duo closer together. This is the beauty of A Highlander's Heart and what makes the book so memorable. There is no guaranteed happily-ever-after. Rather, the hero and heroine must struggle to come to terms with what they can and cannot change.
Multiple plot lines add richness and depth to the plot, and all the secondary characters are well-rounded. The Highlander's Heart isn't your average romance. Instead you are plunged into the lives and experiences of those surrounding Isabelle and David. As a bonus, Ms. Forester's elegant writing style is enhanced with beautifully written dialogue and attention to detail. Enthusiasts of historical romance will undoubtedly enjoy this newest offering in the genre.

Normally a cover like this would scare me off. But, not only was this recommended as a clean read a LOT of other reviews led me to think it would be clean as well. Numerous reviews not only described it as clean but also as a Christian romance with an "honorable" hero. I admit the first part of the book was pretty clean, and I'm sure compared to other romance novels this is probably "clean". I was surprised when I came upon a scene that after thinking about it I can only say is not clean. The author does not go into too much detail, but there is enough to know what is going on. But, what really bothered me is that when the event is over our "honorable" David asks Isabelle to be his mistress, and get this...she's actually flattered! Yeah right. Not only would a lady of her situation and upbringing NOT be flattered by this, but any lady in her right mind would not and should not be flattered by this. No matter how attractive he is.
Let me give you a little background info. She has run away from her husband and he rescues her along the way (a few times) and they end up having to share a room for the night. He promises that her virtue will remain intact. BUT during the night she is awoken by his caresses and one thing leads to another (they don't have sex, but they do other stuff). To me that is NOT a guy protecting your virtue.Read more ›
