Some times it leaks from the lid if it tips over. Of course better than a usual travel mug, but not as secure as a thermos. The mesh could be smaller, as some Rooibos gets through. Regular tea leaves would not. I would also love a 20 oz or larger version.
As with all the JOEmo cups, the coffee?Tea stays very hot and I've never had a problem with leakage of any sort. One thing I have to do is to unscrew the lid when staring a fresh cup. If you don't it is almost impossible to depress the button to drink. After the seal has been broken, the button depresses just great. I like not having to ensure the drinking hole is lined up with my mouth when driving.
Only reason that we have replaced them is because since my wife is a germ-a-phobe if she ever leaves it somewhere, she tosses it and replaces it. I've been drinking out of the same one for about 4yrs...
Addendum...I have to add that, while I still love the mug and the design, the lid is the weak link. I now have 4 stainless steel containers, but only one fully functional lid. Wish I could buy the lid separately!
1) It's too small. That's because I've really been using it with greater and greater frequency since I bought it about a year ago
2) It keeps your tea warm for too long. You have to wait at least 3 hours to drink it, and optimal drinking temperature comes at 4-6 hours after you've sealed it.
But I decided to take advantage of this latter property. A few days ago, I brewed oolong tea in the thermos with included infuser; oolong tea leaves can be brewed for a long time and even multiple times over. Then I sealed it and didn't open it for 10 hours. The tea was then at a good drinking temperature, perhaps a few degrees below 'hot.'
So basically what you're looking at is a state of perpetual tea brewing with this thermos. You can brew it before you go to sleep and wake up to hot tea in the morning by your bedside. You can brew it even when you don't want tea, so it'll come in handy later.
The grounds I tested this thermos were in upstate New York, the frigid north. I use tea as a panacea for respiratory problems or sore throat or anything, really.
If you love tea, you will love this thermos. If you like tea, you will love this thermos. If you're just getting into tea, like I was when I bought this, this thing will change your life.
