I brought 3 of these cameras from Xinray, and they were, indeed, the chinese version. However, they came default with english firmware, which was the main reason why I purchased two more from the same seller after buying my first one. This is not a plug-and-play security camera, and you will need some network knowledge to configure the camera correctly. I hope to help as many buyers as possible, helping figure out whether or not if this camera is right for them.

Before moving forward, let me just point out some obvious facts: this is a fixed lens camera with a wide angle 2.8mm glass lens, if you are looking for a camera with tilt/pan feature, please look else where. You need to know how to setup static IP and port forwarding in your router, as well as DDNS setup (or if you have a static public IP, then you won't need DDNS setup) in order for you to be able to view your camera outside of your local network. If I have lost you already, this is not the camera for you. I would recommend the FujiKam on amazon, which is a plug-and-play, dead easy setup, surveillance camera, with an affordable price tag. If you're with me so far, I'll move forward with my review. Below, I listed out the hardware gears that I use with this security camera.

UPDATE 1/6/2015: It's been a year now since I got 4 of these compact cams. Two of them used as baby cams. I bought them for $170, now you can find them as low as $100. Even though Hikvision introduced security features for the Chinese firmware cams where you have deal with firmware hacking to get English language they are still the best IP cams with rock solid firmware and excellent IQ. I have been running them on version 5.1.0 for a long time, but recently upgraded to 5.2.0 and I was surprised to see that IQ was improved at night. I also purchased other Hikvision domes and they are pretty good as well, but I still prefer these compact cams for indoor home use. Keep in mind if you purchase Chinese version and you will want to upgrade firmware it's not a straight forward process, but there are guides available in many IP cam forums.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I went through many IP cams over the years (Just sold all my Foscams) and I didn't consider this brand for a long time for one simple reason they did not have compact wifi cam until the introduced 2432. I bought one about 5 month ago to try out from Aliexpress. It has Chinese version firmware, but there are language selections and it's set to English. I didn't expect much, but after playing with it I was more then satisfied with this camera and ordered several more.

Pros:
Excellent IQ.
Firmware is stable with lots of features
WiFi very stable and far reaching. I have total of 5 cams running at 1080p resolution and 15 fps.
Free smartphone apps! See below.
POE in a WiFi cam!
Wide angle at 2.8mm about 100 degrees. Excellent for indoor coverage of small rooms. It was difficult to find a compact cam with a wide angle before. Hikvsion not only offers 2.8mm, also has option for 4mm & 6mm lens as well.

The Hikvision DS-2CD2432F-IW camera is a good camera at a fair price. I'm familiar with Hikvision products base on managing them at work. My company uses Hikvision products; we have 5 NVR's and 28 outside and inside cameras. Personally, I run Foscam cameras at home and thought I should step up and try a Hikvision for the house.

This is my personal comparison of Hikvision vs Foscam:

Pros:
1. day time image quality is superb (even on low quality)
2. 2.8mm lens is great; it captures so much more square footage than the Foscam FI8918W that it replaced
3. listening in on the camera is crystal clear (via IP Cam Viewer); haven't tested speaking to the camera yet.
4. setup is straight forward; had mine setup in less than 10 minutes using static IP

Cons:
1. night time image is so-so; my Foscam FI8910W, FI8918W, and FI8907W all look better at night.
2. (Edited 07/16/14. Resolved email alerts by rechecking event setting. I'm 99% certain that I checked the "email" box under the event/motion detection/linkage method setting section numberous times. Then one day I reviewed the motion detection page and noticed that some of the alert boxes were unchecked, including the email. I checked all the boxes and email started working.)
could net get email alert working for motion detection (there's a few sites mentioning that it may be due to the date/time header issue w/ Hikvision that is rejected by the email server and possible due to the "." before the "@" sign of the email address ([...])
3. wifi works, but barely. The bandwidth of the camera requires a wire connection. I noticed video stuttered and navigating the configuration page had considerable lag. This is w/ the Access Point less than 5' feet away in the same room.
