I would buy some TRIM head t-10 screws to use instead of the junk ones that come with it.
Secondly, I purchased two additional from a seller in China. ONE of them was misconfigured on IP 18.104.22.168. I used NMAP to scan all the IPs on the 192.x subnet to find out what IP it was sitting on.
The durability of these cameras is poor. All three of these lasted just over a year, and then stopped working. The IR lights work OK so it's not like the units completely died, they were getting power and all just fine. But, you could not ping or ssh into them at all, no web access, once they stopped working they are just bricks.
I replaced with the Axis M2025-LE. These cost a little bit more than the Hikvisions, but Axis is one of the most reputable manufacturers of IP cameras, and the difference in quality is noticeable. These Axis cameras are working great so far, easy to install, and have better images than the Hikvision, even though they technically have lower resolution (2 MP, vs 3 MP for the Hikvisions). The Axis cameras carry a three year warranty. You can set up ssh on these, and it they are running a full (but custom) version of Linux, not Busybox.
After having three Hikvisions go bad in short period of time, there is no way I will buy Hikvision cameras in the future.
I bought this camera for about $150 about 6 months ago, with it going for $100 now - it is a steal. Monopr1ce sells the same camera for $190 now.
I have the camera in a semi-protected porch setting - ceiling mounted. I use a Cat6a run and a LaView NVR. I have about 10 cameras on the system, with several models.
This camera has a great proximate picture (I use it on an entrance). I am able to easily make out faces and capture images from the camera.
It also looks better than a traditional dome (to me, if that matters to you) - but the design offers less protection from vandalism.
I had no problem in setting it up and my LaView system recognized it without any issues. It has performed flawlessly for 6 months.
Ordering and installing a pair of these camera's is my first foray into security devices, other than my home alarm system. Installation of this camera was very easy, assuming you are comfortable with running CAT5/6 and understand basics of networking and PoE. I'm using my PC as my DVR, but the HIK Vision software which it comes with is NOT intuitive, is complex, and fairly frustrating. Good luck finding any online training material or videos (other than manufacturer PDF's) - but once configured, works very well. I am also running the iVMS-4600 app on my iPhone and our two iPads. You can not configure/manage your devices using the mobile apps, but can receive notifications, video, and JPEG captures. You can also access the HIK Vision web-based client on any browser (or you can use the PC/MAC client software, of course). If you're a newb like me, be ready to do a lot of fine tuning and tinkering based on your needs and application. The physical installation was the easiest part of this so far IMO.
BTW, as of 06/06/2015, Blue Iris would not recognize this camera correctly, hence my use of the HIK Vision software.
Be wary of accidentally drowning yourself in alerts and alarms. Too much alerting can be as bad as none at all. Biggest obstacle/frustration so far, configuring the server and allocating formatted HDD space. Instructions on doing this critical step seem impossible to figure out using the manual. I will continue to tinker until I get it, but it really should be more intuitive.
Picture quality is fantastic, day or night. As others have stated, I will repeat, build quality is solid. Highly recommend!
