First off, I selected this book based on the title... and the cover! With a title like this (and the synopsis emphasized it), it should be a pretty interesting read. The names: Appleseed, Polonia, Bogbottom, Eggbert... those alone made me chuckle to myself. I started reading, and I couldn't put it down as it was so funny!
Polonia as a child witnessed the murder of her father but couldn't see the "other person". At the funeral of Uncle George Bogbottom of the explosive bottom, she wonders about the person who killed the murderer of her father... and about the Last Chance Undies! This sets the family in an uproar... and I will say no more as you MUST read this book for yourself!!
Why is this book so funny? Well, Lorain O'Neil's writing style is just so expressive in a tongue in cheek kind of way. Her word choice, cadence, and just plain flow just sweeps you along on Polonia's quest for the truth. The tone or voice of the story sounds like a funny, snarky friend telling a story - and the telling is what adds to the whole package - which amplifies the whole story. The telling is irreverent... what happens seems crazy yet believable. (Don't we all have friends where they tell what has implausibly happened to them, and we think, "it could ONLY happen to So-and So!"?)
When Polonia escapes her kidnapper, she doesn't get mad - she gets even! OMG! I HOPE none of my friends are like that! This is a fun story! The characters are different degrees of deranged! The main thing is that family is family, no matter what!
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I must admit it was much more fun than I had expected - and I am thinking about grabbing another book by this author in the near future!

When Polonia Appleseed was a child she saw her father murdered. She wasn't suppose to be out of bed so she hid. From her hiding spot she could only see one of the people but heard another person. The murderer got away but years later she still wanted to find the killer so she set out to find the person. At the funeral of her uncle, the owner of the last chance undies, she attempted to lure the murderer out since all the suspects were there.
I like the writing style of the author very much. She made Polonia's search for the murderer easy to follow with her smooth, detailed writing. This is an enjoyable book that is more of a mystery than a comedy - which I was expecting. According to the title and blurb it's suppose to be hilarious. I did not find it hilarious. Yes it is pretty funny that the dead guy had underwear that he called his last chance undies but that's the funniest thing in the book in my opinion. All the characters are nasty and greedy. So much so that it is funny. The Appleseed women are money grubbing, classy b*****s. No matter how bad they are, family is most important to all of them so they aren't all bad. Polonia is quite a surprise. Her family thinks she's odd so don't pay much attention to her thoughts on the killer. She's much smarter than they think though. Also the ending is quite surprising.
Please note I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

...then read this book! Ms. O'Neill's sense of humor is clever, from the names of the characters (& characters they are!) to the situations they create to the way she originates new words that make perfect sense. I personally have appropriated "fauxpology" to my lexicon; isn't it a perfect word? Apolonia Appleseed is an odd duck, within a family filled with dead ducks, equally odd ducks, & a need to duck and cover. As she approaches the age to receive her inheritance, the relatives conspire to keep control of the family assets. Not a new plot line, is it? But the refreshing approach to the story is delightful, funny (if you catch the subtleties), and has many twists to throw the reader a curve or two. I only found 1 glaring error: "adverse" should be "averse". I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received this book for an honest review and I loved the book. The language did make me look in the dictionary a few times ( ok a bunch of times) but that truly added to the story. The language gave the story the feeling of being with investors. I thought the undies as a clue was really funny. There were quite a few characters and this really kept a person guessing as to who the murderer was. I names were interesting and unique as was the secret talent. I would highly recommend this book to readers that like twists, humor and unique mysteries. I am looking forward to more books by this author.

Enjoyed this book. It had your attention from beginning to end, when the murderer was revealed. Polonia was a little over the top, but as the book went on you started to understand she was smarter than she was given credit. The book also showed that blood definitely is thicker than water and greed can run in the family. This definitely was a family of mismatched characters. The ending for me was a surprise.

I usually give a book a couple of chapters to interest me before I discard it. This one caught the with the first page ! A convoluted journey with such descriptive and hilarious narrative that I felt as if I were there. I enjoyed every minute and loved Polonia, the main character. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a lighthearted, funny mystery. I was given this book in return for an honest review.

I didn't love this book, but I didn't hate it either. I did however get this book for free, for an honest review.
I am a very avid reader, if a book hooks me, get it read in no time. This book took me a week to read. I liked the characters, especially Polonia. The rest of the family are greedy, selfish, non-loving stick in the muds.
I wish Nott was brought in and actually had a bigger part in the story.
The wording was too much. Long paragraphs of flowery descriptions weren't needed for most of the book.
All-in-all, I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. I would give this author another chance, and read another story.
