Most of us experience self sabotage messages one at a time. It’s a nagging voice in the back of your head, it’s getting the side eye in the grocery store and spending your entire afternoon thinking about it, it’s parking outside the networking event and going back home before you even walk inside. It’s one thing to experience these messages individually, but when I read this book, I saw all my self sabotage messages at once. You know what? It was overwhelming for about three seconds. And then? It began to feel like an opportunity. Now that I’ve seen exactly how much Hilda has held me back (spoiler alert: a tremendous amount), it’s appalling. And I’m ready to do something about it.
You can’t get rid of an evil tree by hacking at the branches. Go for the roots, baby. Go for the roots. This book gives you a shovel and compels you to take action.
I’ve read self help books before. So many times, those books contain instructions from someone on high - advice you “should” adhere to if you want to become a better person. Those books always outline some step by step process that seems doable at first, but is never practical.
When I read an advance copy, I realized: This isn’t a self help book at all. It’s a self shove book (new category, Amazon?). It made me realize how much self sabotage is going on in my life; and more importantly, it is showing me that there is a way to stop it. I read this book and I got more than advice; I got hope.
Anyone who has ever wanted to do something new, daring, or audacious has confronted their own version of Hilda. The question is, who won?
In her book, Coach Jennie walks you through the ways Hilda pops up in your head, telling you that you CAN'T, SHOULDN'T, DON'T KNOW, or just DON'T WANNA. We all hear our own version of Hilda.
But where most books dig into WHY that is, Coach Jennie doesn't care. I'd even go so far as to say she doesn't give a s***. What she's interested in is getting Hilda to shut up and get out of the way so you can move past that voice and do the amazing things you're meant to do. And this book gives you the questions, exercises, and strategies to do just that.
I read an advance copy I received as a coaching client of Jennie's (but have purchased by own copy and hard copies to give to my own clients), and I've spent the last year and a half listening to her actual voice ask me these questions. For $10, you can read this book and get a very similar experience which is an incredible bargain. Unless you let Hilda win. Don't let Hilda win.
To quote the book, "You have far too much to offer the world to stay stuck in indecision and inertia another moment. You know it's time. You know you can handle it. You know I'm right." And she is. Read this book and get going.
This is on my Kindle app on my phone so I can literally carry Jennie around in my pocket! It's a dream come true. #hildathebook
Coach Jennie knew! This book is packed with insightful and real-world advice for how to kick your inner critic to the curb.
Look, that nagging voice in your head is just trying to protect you - from falling, from embarrassment, from failing, and also from achieving / accomplishing great things.
Because it's scary to do Great Big things, right?
But you can beat your inner naysayer, aka Hilda, back with a stick of truth & facts and put her in the corner with tape over her mouth so you can go back to being your awesome self.
How? Read. This. Book.
Coach Jennie fills this book with actionable tools and tips for dealing with your own methods of self-sabotage and finally winning that internal battle conversation (it's not just me, right?).
If you have aspirations of achieving something fabulous, but seem to always stop dead in your tracks - this book is the secret sauce you've been searching for.
Buy it. Read it. Read it again. Implement. Win! Show the world your awesomeness.
This book is so relatable because Jennie speaks and writes likes she's a best friend and you are just having a cup of coffee and venting to a good friend. She gives you practical and sound advice, followed up with a big swift kick in the butt (she lovingly calls these her "cathartic shoves"). I was lucky, as one of Coach Jennie's coaching clients, to receive an advance copy of this book. I devoured it in two days and I am starting it over again now so I can dig in deeper, take notes and work through some of the questions that Jennie provides in the book.
I knew that my Hilda showed up, but after reading this book I realized she shows up in many more ways and places than I had thought. I've got some pretty big, hairy, audacious goals but I never act on them. You better believe that after reading this book I have a tape gun in hand to tape up Hilda's mouth, just like that kid in the Twix commercial. Thanks to some of the questions and actionable points in this book, I feel more prepared to no only know when Hilda is showing up, but how to silence her and to really move forward in creating the life I really want to lead.
