At first I was a bit concerned after reading reviews about the dimmer switch (basically a variable resistor) heating up, melting, and causing a fire. My kid bought this Himalayan Pink Salt Lamp for my wife as a Christmas gift because she has been wanting one for a long time. I read up on the fire hazard and noticed that a recall has been placed on this salt lamp. All of the one star rated "fire warning" reviews are from many months or years ago. So I assume that the batch that was sent out has had this dimmer issue fixed. Basically a higher wattage variable resistor is needed to fix this problem.

At any rate, we plugged the unit into an electrical outlet, dimmed the light to a very pleasing dim orange color and placed the lamp on a table. The lamp has been turned on 24/7 for a couple of weeks now. The dimmer is cold to the touch and we have experienced no issues whatsoever with the product. We are very pleased with the lamp, its appearance, and the nice pinking-orange dimmable warm glow it casts.

If any issues arise I will update this review. So far we are happy with the lamp.

I used this lamp as instructed, leaving on a few hours per day. Today I came home after the lamp had been completely off and it had turned on on its own (despite switch still being turned to off) and the lamp was leaking liquid onto the table. The dimmer switch was very hot to the touch. The lamp could not be turned off without unplugging it. I only had this lamp a couple of weeks.

I got this as a gift for my daughter last year. Recently, she smelled an electrical smell coming from her bedroom and discovered that the dimmer switch on this lamp had melted. She is just lucky it did not start a fire. We saw a post on fb the other day that indicated that another company of salt lamps was having this problem. I also have one from this company too and am now afraid to leave it unattended. What is up with these dimmer switches?

Like several comments above, I also smelled something burning one night in my office and couldn’t figure out what was the culprit for awhile. When I located the source of the problem and tried to turn off the salt lamp, I almost burned my hand by touching the dimmer/switch. As you can see from the photo, part of it was melted. Glad I was there that night. Or my office would have been on fire!

I purchased this item from Amazon and a year or so later the dimmer switch stopped working. When I took it apart to inspect I found the transistor (which is severely undersized for this design) had overheated and burned up itself and the circuit board. I searched the part numbers online and discovered this is the *exact same* board that has been recalled by other manufacturers (i.e., Micheals). I do not understand why Amazon has not recalled their version of it yet. It is a fire waiting to happen. I would not recommend anyone using this product.
EDIT: After a bit more research it seems the manufacturer may have changed the dimmer to a safer version recently. Here is a picture of mine for reference. If your dimmer has these markings it is the version that is faulty and will burn up. The little thing next to the cover is the transistor that burned up. It used to have three terminals but the other one disintegrated.

Edit April 2018. I called the manufacturer, WBM, and explained my situation and they agreed to send me a new dimmer cord with no questions asked. The new cord is vastly different and contains a completely redesigned circuit (I took it apart to inspect). It is EIC approved and labeled as such. The replacement was free.

After having this salt lamp for two months, the light bulb make a loud noise and sparked. I tried putting in a new bulb and it still wouldn't work. This ended up happening to three of the five salt lamps we purchased (I purchased five of these at once from this seller). I tried getting in contact with the seller and they never responded so now I'm stuck with 3 salt lamps that can't be used.

I bought this for my wife for Christmas, grudgingly, thinking it was trendy nonsense, and it might well be.
However, the light it puts out is the most soothing of ANY product I know.
Very glad I got the dimmable model, as I think you REALLY need that feature.
It goes from very bright, to super dim, though at times, if it's very dim, it can actually go off after a time.
The dimmer control is the nicest I've owned, and is very gradual, and covers all bases.

The lamp gets warm, as you'd expect from a small bulb, not hot.
I detect no smell, but close up, it seems to have an effect on my nostrils, neither good nor bad that I can tell, but something.
I have to have it on every night now, and if it breaks I will buy another right away.

I followed instructions and let it "burn in for 24 hrs" right off the bat.
The air in the back bedroom that it was in seemed cleaner after that whole day.
Could be imagination...but whatever the lamp does or doesn't do, it certainly is a lovely, relaxing light.

Unhappy with the Black makes.

Not super happy with this item. Considering returning it. On the backside there are several black marks on it. I know coloring is different on each lamp, but it shouldn’t be black.

Very dissertation in the shape. It’s nearly rectangular. Also was very dirty. I had to wipe down several areas for quite a while to get the dirt off. Not pleased.
