Does it really have health benefits?
Not sure why I've decided to review this lamp out of all the products waiting for me to review, especially since it's been a year since my last review.
I do want to say that I have had this lamp turned on, literally, for 24 hours a day for the past 6 months. It was purchased in December 2018 but it wasn't always on like it is now.
In all this time, there hasn't been any issues with fire concerns which I just read about on one review. Needless to say, as a precaution, I went to turn it off. However, before I did, I was curious of the temperature of the lamp. The highest temperature with my laser thermometer was 97.1 °F. The controller switch was not warm at all.
To turn the lamp on or off, you just tap the controller. It is similar to the integrated soft buttons on certain Samsung tablets if that makes sense. To adjust the brightness, you must press and hold the controller switch - it alternates between dimming and brightening with each press and hold.
The lamp is very heavy. I just recently read something about salt lamps "sweating" in humid environments. I haven't noticed that but maybe because my lamp has been turned on for so long.
It has a beautiful warm glow that creates an amazingly warm ambience. Apparently, this style lamp is currently trending which I didn't know. Although I don't subscribe to current trends, it does look great whether it's on or off.
Now, there have been some "pundits" that say salt lamps have health benefits, such as improving mood and even cleaning the air.
Mood is relative but what they're saying about salt lamps is that they release negative ions. Now, there have been no studies to suggest this is actually happening but I do want share my experience.
Negative ions are purported to electrically charge particles in the air such as dust, pet dander, etc. What happens is that these now electrically charged particles "stick" to the closest object. It is also thought that ionized particles fall due to the charged particles becoming heavier.
With all of that said, we run a Coway HEPA air purifier 8 hours a day. Despite this, I've noticed that there is always a dramatic amount of dust around this lamp. Nothing touches the lamp so it's not like the salt is "chipping" off or anything. I'm not saying it's cleaning the air but nothing else in the vicinity of the lamp is gathering this much dust. Just an observation.
Otherwise, great lamp.

Alright, I think we all need to be honest with each other, so I'm going to get the ball rolling with a confession: the very first thing I did after pulling this lamp out of the plastic was lick my palm. DON'T LIE; I KNOW YOU DID IT TOO, JUST TO SEE HOW SALTY IT WOULD BE. (Answer: very...and unsettlingly tasty to a salt-lover like me.)*
Taste notwithstanding, this is such a great lamp! I'm not especially concerned about the ions or whatever; I was just looking for some cool-looking task lighting to keep next to my bed - this lamp is perfect for that. The pink salt gives it a nice cozy glow, and the dimmer switch is very responsive and convenient. (In my photo, I have the brightness set to about half-power.)
The construction of the lamp itself seems great too. It's certainly heavy-duty, and came well-packaged with clear, professional instructions that made me feel like I'd definitely picked a good product. I was a little worried after hearing about the salt lamp fires and subsequent recalls, so I really appreciated this company distancing its products from those right in the description. I can enjoy the warm orange light without worrying about going up in flames!
There are about a bajillion salt lamps for sale on Amazon, and all I can say is I'm happy I picked this one!
*For the record, I'm not actively eating my lamp, and don't suggest you do either.
